Aw yeah! Jeanine and I were honored to kick off "Design Illinois: A Mentored Future" as keynote speakers last Friday at our alma mater, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The event was organized by the College of Fine + Applied Arts at Illinois and hosted at the gorgeous Siebel Center for Design! ?? Along with fellow alumni, we met students throughout the day in talks, interviews, portfolio reviews, and ad hoc group chats. They were energized and engaged as we discussed their industrial design, graphic design, sustainable design, and UX career goals. ?? STUDENTS: Add a comment introducing yourselves to network! ???? We're so grateful to SCD Director, Rachel Switzky, for the invite, Ana Rodas and team for planning this smashing event, and everyone who supported us getting there: Joey Hartz, Emily Bear, Nate Mask, and Ellen Fred. (I'm sure we missed some folks.) ?? Thank you also to Dean Jake Pinholster, Jon Salvani, and Brenda Nardi for your generosity and for hosting the alumni social. ???? Nostalgia was in full effect as we roamed the Art & Design Building halls and had a 4-person ID Studio reunion → Jeanine, Rachel, and I were joined by our classmate, Lou Simon, who gave two talks, interviewed, and reviewed portfolios! ?? We're sparking more conversations as faculty and students continue to connect with us. ?? Of course, we covered hot topics from our book: the "Design Career Handbook" (link in comments)! ??
