We're pleased to announce that Detroit is one of 26 U.S. cities to receive an #AsphaltArt Initiative grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies! This program funds creative projects that improve street safety, revitalize public spaces and engage local communities. As part of the initiative, Sidewalk Detroit is leading community engagement for the Lahser Streetscape project. We're also excited to announce that the curatorial council has selected muralist Habacuc Bessiake to bring the community's vision to life! This vibrant mural will celebrate Detroit’s diverse and resilient spirit, uniting businesses and residents alike. At the recent Detroit’s 2024 Parks Summit, our very own Director and Founder Ryan Myers-Johnson moderated a panel on park stewardship, sharing insights from organizing volunteer cleanups, maintaining native habitats, tackling invasive species and more. At the same event, Sidewalk Detroit Program Director Augusta Morrison brought her expertise to a youth engagement panel, discussing efforts to connect Detroit’s youth with our parks. Eliza Howell Park Advisory Council member Leonard Weber also attended and spoke.
