They say we should start with ‘why’. Our ‘why’ is why is my computer not doing what I tell it to? Why can I not speak to a sentient human being rather than an unwashed robot? Why can nobody explain this to me in plain English and stop me throwing my PC out the window? You’ve spoken to IT companies before, of course. If it’s not outsourced to the moon then it’s led by a team of uninterested drones who seldom speak to actual people. Their website will tell you they’re the best thing since sliced bread, shouting about: ?? Benefits ?? Features ?? Products ?? Specifications ?? Consultants ?? Certifications Bla bla bla. Just fix my effing computer and quit with the life story, right? We know how our customers feel. We’ve experienced the throbbing vein on the forehead at the sight of a spinning wheel. That panic in the pit of the stomach when you open a dodgy email attachment. Our ‘mission’, if that’s what you want to call it, is to send those feelings packing. Instead, we want to leave you feeling Happy, Confident and Empowered. Our clients don't all fit neatly into a one industry, though many of them are: ?? Accountants – using various digital accounting systems and storing customer details. ?? Bookkeepers – handling finances and keeping customer data safe. ?????? HR companies – managing highly sensitive employee information for their clients. ?? Nurseries – safeguarding children digitally from social media to sensitive data. ?? Solicitors – keeping IT practices compliant with data protection. ??? Virtual assistants – handling financial and personal data for their clients and managing a million tasks at once. What do all of these have in common? They don’t have any bloody time! Worse still, they don’t want to fork out hourly rates to a VA when an IT professional could fix it in 15 minutes. Buying the right laptop for your business matters. A lot. For some people, budget might be limited, it could be better business to buy a renewed / pre-owned laptop which is a better quality, than to buy an unsuitable but very cheap new computer. Shiny things are nice to have, but good robust and business appropriate tools are there for the win. Do you ever buy pre-owned tech?

Following from my (still ongoing) poll about what laptop makes people prefer to buy, it's still on my mind. The results are mixed, I think Apple had the overall lead so-far, but when you combine the other three "PC" options, then it's clear that PC is the leader by type. Anyway, what I want to talk about is the "Cheap Laptop Fallacy". My own theory. All the main laptop makers have cheap tat, cheap, mid, high and ultra level models and within each of those you get your different specs. Small business owners have a tendency, particularly when hiring new staff for the first time, or taking on part time workers, to want to go towards the lower end of the scale. Naturally, they turn to the likes of local electrical retailers, who have a business department and funky online marketing as their first port of call. In there, they find many bargains, sub-￡300 laptops which seem to fit the bill. ?? STOP RIGHT NOW, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, YOU NEED SOMEBODY WITH A HUMAN TOUCH. ?? Those laptops are not good enough, they can be severely limited in what you'll be able to do with them, they won't integrate with your business (Microsoft 365) properly, they will be pretty flimsy, under-powered and you will regret your choices. Please seek help, as my own client did last night, thankfully... because as my mother-in-law always says... "Buy cheap, buy twice". Would you rather spend a few hundred pounds more and get something that will do the job and last?

We've made it to 5 years old! ?????? I'm absolutely chuffed to bits to share this news, it's been such a journey, we've gone through so much in the five years of Siarp and Assistify - Virtual Business Management, after being dealt a few shitty cards at the start. What we've learnt along the way is that no matter what problems you encounter, it's how you react to them that matters. ?? Help others without expectation. ?? Be nice. ?? Stand out from the crowd. ?? Do things your own way. ?? Listen to advice of others, but make your own choices. ?? Surround yourself with great people. So, to all of the people we've met along the way, and to those we're yet to meet, thank you. Even the arseholes, because in your own way you too, have helped to shape us into who we are today.
