Thank you to Cooper Powell, John M. Vernaglia, and Jonathan Hewett from ShuffieldLowman for participating in this great event! Thank you to all the volunteer attorneys for coming out and helping our local community. We appreciate all of your efforts and thank you for joining Cooper Powell!
What a rewarding weekend it was volunteering at the Orange County Bar Association "Wills For Heroes" event, which was organized by YLS President-elect Cooper Powell and held at ShuffieldLowman. The Wills for Heroes pro bono project is an effort to show our appreciation for the daily sacrifices of our local firefighters, law enforcement, and emergency medical technicians. This program offers free wills, health care advance directives, and durable powers of attorney to all first responders and their spouses/partners located in Orange County. And the best part is you don't need ANY estate planning experience to help out! That's because training is provided prior to the event, which includes familiarity with the HotDocs software and learning the process of drafting the will. In all, we helped SEVENTY FIVE "heroes" on Saturday, and it was such a great event and a day well spent! Thanks to President-elect Powell for organizing and to all the volunteer attorneys who came out and helped - especially Jamy Barreau, Esq., LL.M. from the Port Saint Lucie Bar Association YLD, who drove over an hour to come take part!
