Last week, I had the privilege of serving as an executive sponsor alongside Mike Aitken at the SHRM Workplace Law Forum in Washington, DC. This impactful one-day event brought together thought leaders, policymakers, and legal experts to explore some of the most pressing workplace issues of our time. I was honored to moderate a panel on the post-election outlook, featuring insightful perspectives from former members of Congress Toby Moffett (D-CT) and Vin Weber (R-MN), both now partners at Mercury. Their bipartisan analysis on the future of workplace policy was invaluable. The forum also included compelling sessions on "The Supreme Court and Policy Making" moderated by Tillman Breckenridge and "Navigating AI’s Legal Landscape" led by Rachel See. We were fortunate to hear from EEOC Vice Chair Jocelyn Samuels and former EEOC Chair Janet Dhillon, whose expertise enriched our discussions on critical legal and regulatory challenges. Deskless workers account for 70%-80% of the global workforce and are critical to the success of many organizations. However, many #HRProfessionals say they face unique challenges promoting benefits utilization and enrollment among this population. Addressing these challenges is crucial for the recruitment, engagement, and retention of these essential workers. SHRM's latest research with Fidelity Workplace examines these challenges and identifies strategies to enhance benefits utilization among deskless workers. Findings indicate that after compensation, benefits are the next most critical factor in attracting and retaining these workers. However, nearly half of #HRProfessionals struggle to communicate benefits effectively to deskless employees and 76% of HR professionals find improving benefits utilization more challenging for deskless workers than for office-based employees.
