Christian and Jacob have been Shriners Children's New England patients since they were toddlers. Recently, they shared the experience of receiving a myoelectric arm from the Pediatric Orthotic and Prosthetic Services (POPS) team. In a big step toward increasing access to pediatric orthopedic care, Shriners Children's Texas recently celebrated the opening of its new outreach clinic in San Angelo, Texas, located at Shannon Health Clinic. A ribbon-cutting was held on February 20, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the children and families of West Texas. https://ow.ly/ZwOM50Vf3sb

Shriners Children’s hosted more than 130 physicians, clinicians, data scientists, engineers, and researchers from across the country at the “Shriners Children’s State of Research: Special Emphasis on Muscle and Bone Health” at Shriners Children's Chicago earlier this month. The 7th annual conference included more than 30 presentations on topics in muscle and bone health, including early research into a compound that could lead to the first oral treatment for OI. Some other talks included comparing pain control measures and several surgical techniques in orthopedics, and the fascinating muscle response in children missing an upper limb, that scientists may one day use to develop even better prosthetics. There were several Chicago staff presenters. Three members of the board of trustees for Shriners Children’s, who are also members of the research committee, attended the two-day conference.
