Meet Breianna! Breianna was born with Cerebral Palsy (CP), a general term applied to many conditions that can result from a disturbance to the developing brain. CP affects muscle tone, movement and coordination. This can make it difficult for a child to control the movement of their body. Breianna lives independently on her university's campus, and continues to work on life skills in occupational therapy with Jess. Macie, one of our patient ambassadors presented at last week's Kosair for Kids Shrine Leaders Conference! Macie had VBT surgery with Doctor Samdani back in 2022. During her speech, she highlighted her medical journey with scoliosis and all of the ways her care at Shriners Children's Philadelphia helped her get back in the game. ??? Fun Fact: Macie threw out a first pitch a little over a month ago at the Clearwater Invitational!

Their out of office message might be up, but that doesn't mean that Dr. Kozin and Dr. Park aren't working hard! They are at CURE Children's Hospital of Ethiopia. The two of them, along with other mission trip team members, were able to see many children with upper extremity and hand differences. We are so proud of Dr. Kozin and Park's dedication to volunteerism and their passion for sharing their expertise with those worldwide. And for those of you that know - you know - Dr. Kozin loves handing out matchbox cars during his examinations to test the pinch and grasp of a child's hand! Dr. Kozin was behind the camera, snapping photos of Dr. Park in action ????

Jackson was born with left upper extremity transverse deficiency, a congenital condition where a portion of the arm does not develop while in utero. Jackson has been a patient of Dan Zlotolow, M.D., since he was 8 months old. Now, at age 7, he was ready to explore the world of prosthetics and recently received his first prosthetic arm, made by our in-house Pediatric Orthotic and Prosthetics Departments (POPS). Dr. Hwang, Dr. Brenn, Ross Chafetz, and staff from our research team gathered in Chicago, IL for the seventh annual State of Science Conference. The conference included more than 30 presentations on topics in muscle and bone health. Several of our team members presented on topics including early onset scoliosis and Arthrogryposis.
