Another successful tasting event hosted by our amazing Nutrition Services team! This time, we had the pleasure of featuring Hawaii-grown Māmaki tea from Strata Farms, LLC. Our staff, patients, and visitors had the opportunity to refresh with three delicious iced tea varieties: natural, honey, and mint. Each sip was a taste of Hawaii! A big thank you to Ian Kennedy from Strata Farms, LLC, who joined us to share the health benefits of Māmaki tea and the passion behind its sustainable growth. #ShrinersHawaii

Just in time for open enrollment, our HR team hosted our annual Benefits Fair in the lobby where staff could browse and explore the incredible benefits at Shriners Children's! In addition to gathering valuable information for the upcoming year, they also had a chance to win some exciting swag. In a heartwarming initiative with Hawai?i Pacific University’s Doctorate of Occupational Therapy program, the Shriners Children’s complex upper extremity team launched Camp Ho’omana, a vibrant hand camp designed for children with upper limb differences. The idea for Camp Ho’omana came from the dedicated team at Shriners Children’s, but it truly blossomed with the enthusiasm of HPU’s OTD students, who crafted the camp’s name, logo, and planned and implemented the keiki activities. The primary objective was clear: to connect children and their families in a fun, supportive environment that empowers them to face daily physical, emotional, and social challenges. “We aimed to create a support network for both parents and children, where they could learn from each other and have fun,” said Sarah Knox (occupational therapist), a key organizer of the camp. The camp was not just an opportunity for play; it addressed crucial issues such as access to resources and a lack of information regarding upper limb differences. By fostering connections among families, the camp aimed to enhance the overall well-being of the keiki and provide them with a sense of community. The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Aloha Chapter held their awards luncheon at the Sheraton Waikiki Ballroom, honoring individuals and community organizations who’ve made meaningful contributions in Hawaii. Shriners Children’s Hawaii patient ambassador Evie and her family were one of three honorees recognized with the Volunteer in Philanthropy Award. Evie and her family have been active not just in fundraising for our hospital, but have helped spread awareness of osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) with other families, donors and our local community. Mahalo to the AFP Aloha Chapter and especially to Evie and her family for flying from Kauai to attend the event and for putting a lot of smiles on attendees’ faces! #ShrinersHawaii

This week, we’re honoring the incredible Radiologic Technologists (Rad Techs) who play a crucial role in patient care at our hospital. These skilled professionals are the heart of diagnostic imaging, using advanced technology like our EOS imaging system to capture high-quality front and side images while minimizing radiation exposure. Their expertise helps diagnose and guide treatment for conditions such as fractures, scoliosis and other conditions. Beyond that, our Rad Techs ensures that every patient feels comfortable, safe, and cared for throughout their imaging procedure.
