The World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024 World Design Policy Conference took place this week to discuss, as Tim Brown, Chair at IDEO summarized in his closing conversation, “where design impacts policy, and where policy impacts design”. Under the theme of #BeyondBoundaries, there were four tracks explored by the 350 participants: ?Beyond Innovation showcased groundbreaking paths to clean energy and transformative designs poised to reshape our world’s future. ? Beyond Health explored AI’s revolutionary impact on healthcare, concluding with discussions on health innovation frontiers and scaling for inclusion and building resilient communities. ?Beyond Borders addressed transborder governance, workforce development, and the potential for cross-border collaboration. ?Beyond Creative united international designers working on design policy and democratizing design showing how design can power policy globally. The speakers including Dr. Patricia Moore, most recent recipient of WDO’s World Design Medal, Dr. María Rosario Jackson, Chair National Endowment for the Arts, Michèle Morris, Yongqi Lou, #WDOMembers Taiwan Design Research Institute (TDRI), Design Center of the Philippines and representatives from World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 and so many more speakers, moderators and panelists.
