With lithium technology on the rise, many businesses are starting to switch to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious method of powering their equipment. #lithium #lithiumtechnology #lithiumion #sustainability #forklift #materialhandling #shoppas The rise of sustainable mobility and environmental consciousness has made lithium a buzzword in the material handling world. Lithium batteries have emerged as the favored energy storage solution due to their impressive energy density, extended lifespan, hyperstability, and ability to recharge quickly and efficiently from a wide variety of charge sources. The shift towards lithium didn’t happen overnight. As supply chain operations began to prioritize speed, data processing, and mobility, the demand for dependable portable power started to grow significantly. Lithium’s ability to hold a significantly higher energy density means more power is packed into a lighter and smaller package. This makes it ideal for applications where weight and space are at a premium. Lithium batteries offer a longer lifespan and the ability to undergo numerous charge cycles while maintaining performance. This reduces the need for frequent replacements, translating into significant cost savings. They also operate across a wide range of temperatures, making them suitable for use in varying climates and conditions. Lithium can also be charged in multiple modes such as trickle, fast, opportunity, and high-amperage without reducing the expected life of the battery. Thanks to advanced battery management systems that regulate the charging process, there is no need to worry about overcharging lithium-ion batteries. Battery management systems (BMS) are highly integrated smart monitors and controllers that have full control of lithium battery cells. The BMS will monitor temperature, amperage, resistance, capacity, and many other readings thousands of times per minute, and controls all cell connections in a way that balances and maintains each lithium cell. Lithium technology does not require extensive maintenance. Lithium technology has incredibly low maintenance costs, and eliminates the need for tasks like watering and equalizing that are typically associated with lead-acid batteries. Shoppa’s experts can assist you in finding the perfect lithium forklift and seamlessly support you to make the switch to electric. In addition to offering a wide selection of new and used equipment options, Shoppa’s also provides 24/7 on-call service and preventative maintenance plans to ensure your Lithium forklift needs are met and your equipment investment is protected. Take advantage of Shoppa’s significantly discounted rental rates to test out this cutting-edge technology without committing long term. Contact a Shoppa’s Material Handling expert today to discover more about our Lithium inventory available for demo, rent, or purchase, and make the switch with confidence.

Ongoing innovations in the material handling industry may be principally designed to enhance productivity, but they also make warehouses safer. That’s always good news for an industry facing pressure to improve safety. Labor Shortages and New Regulations Illustrate Safety Issues Facing the post-pandemic labor shortage, warehouses operators of all sizes had to ask their existing teams to take on more responsibility, work longer hours, and wear more hats. New hires are alleviating the labor crunch, but administering proper onboarding and safety training takes valuable time and resources. This has created a dual-threat risk for workplace accidents in an industry that already ranks highest in reports of worker illnesses and injuries, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In response to increasing incident rates, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has launched a three-year national emphasis program to prevent workplace hazards in the material handling industry. Under the program, OSHA will conduct comprehensive safety inspections to identify hazards related to powered industrial vehicle operations and material handling and storage. Failure to comply could result in fines. Companies are now under pressure to not only make their warehouses safer but also compliant with current and evolving standards. Protecting People and Property with Toyota’s SEnS Technology One technology that is already helping improve safety is Toyota Material Handling’s new Smart Environment Sensor (SEnS). SEnS uses proprietary algorithms to distinguish between people and stationary objects up to 32 feet away. When an object is detected, a buzzer and four indicator lights alert the operator to a pedestrian or object that is within a certain range of the rear of the forklift. The frequency of the warnings increases as pedestrians or objects get closer. Toyota’s Smart Environment Sensor Plus (SEnS+) takes things further, incorporating an operator-assist system that can control the truck’s speed based on certain factors, such as its location, weight and trajectory. SEnS and SEnS+ are available as add-on features for new Toyota forklifts and can be retrofitted on many Toyota Forklift models already in use. Want to take your safety program to the next level? Contact a Shoppa’s representative to learn about our advanced safety training programs, as well as our array of modern, safety-focused material handling equipment.
