Did you know that over 230 young women have been sponsored by SHOFCO to enhance their tailoring and dressmaking skills at Sainath Education Institute? Through this partnership, these women are gaining valuable skills and connections to job opportunities, including placements at the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Athi River. Already, some of them have secured employment, while others are at different interview levels for job consideration, paving the way for dignified livelihoods. Last week, we successfully launched the Youth Voice and Empowerment program in #Bomet and #Kericho counties. Our conversations focused on mobilizing young people and empowering them to actively participate in community development dialogue and key decision-making processes that impact their local communities. At SHOFCO, we believe that true change begins at the grassroots level, driven by the power of community. Through our SHOFCO Urban Network (SUN), we are empowering local leaders and communities to take #climateaction and build #sustainablelivelihoods. This week, in Migori County, I presided over the launch of water pans in North Kamagambo, Awendo, and Uriri sub-counties to tackle climate change on two critical fronts: capturing excess rainwater during sporadic heavy rains that often lead to flooding and addressing water shortages during increasingly prolonged droughts. These water pans will not only provide a reliable source of water for farming, domestic use, and fish farming, but also support the resilience of these communities. While on the ground, I had the opportunity to engage with local residents and discuss the importance of tree planting in mitigating the long-term effects of climate change. By organizing communities through SUN, we are fostering collective responsibility in environmental conservation and sustainable development. This is just one example of how climate action can be integrated into community-driven solutions to build resilience and create livelihoods. I am deeply moved by the incredible progress we at SHOFCO are making across the country.
