Instead, articulate specific areas for improvement. For instance, if a team member is struggling with deadlines, don’t just point out the issue. Discuss the potential reasons behind those delays and how they can overcome them. This empowers them to take action. 2?? It’s equally important to create a roadmap for success. Help your team member understand what they need to do differently. Feedback should feel like a partnership with a goal to inspire growth and improvement. In 2009, my brain tumor diagnosis and journey allowed me to put into action my Advantage through Adversity philosophy. My life was brought to a standstill while I dealt with the diagnosis, surgery, and recovery. I had to relearn how to walk. For months, the simple act of moving my neck was a challenge. It forced me to reflect on myself and my surroundings. I decided to turn this challenge into an opportunity to live a more authentic life and put into action some key principles that changed my life for the better. Turns out these same principles are applicable in business to take you from an adverse situation to your vision. Here's a glimpse of what I did... 1?? Create a vision that is authentic to you and pursue it. I envisioned the day I would be able to get back into my normal life of walking, exercising and being active. I relentlessly pursued that vision. 2?? Set goals that are relevant to current circumstances Taking a few more steps each day??. I had to learn to walk again. The focus was on establishing achievable goals, tailored to the present circumstances, to ensure success. 3?? Measuring progress I started where my body was at, meticulously tracking the number of steps I took daily and gradually working to increase them. I like the saying: “What’s measured is managed” – it refers to all stages of our evolution. 4?? Celebrating milestones As I appreciated each step I took in my recovery, in the business world, acknowledging and celebrating incremental achievements can boost morale, create a positive work environment, and ultimately drive success. It's a reminder that we are in this together, and every milestone, no matter how small, contributes to our collective journey towards our vision. Through these principles, I found both a recovery path and a new definition of success in my personal and professional journey. Life is an endless voyage of self-discovery.
