Schlumberger Technology Corp., No. 24-20170, 2024 WL 5003579 (5th Cir. Dec. 6, 2024), a foreign plaintiff filed suit against a lone forum defendant, who removed the case before being served with process. The Fifth Circuit held that the pre-service removal by a forum defendant was proper, opening the door for forum defendants to effectuate snap removals prior to being served. George Shipley, Brooksie Bonvillain Boutet, and Kaitlyn Dawson spent their Valentine's Day at the Institute for Energy Law's 76th Annual Energy Law Conference. They enjoyed insightful discussions on key industry topics, including owner-contractor disputes on LNG projects, common contractual disputes in oilfield services agreements, emerging trends in renewable energy, and how technology and intellectual property are fueling the electrification of the oilfield.
