关于我们
There is a vital need for culturally sensitive support and essential resources that foster healing for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence in underserved populations. Shining Light In Darkness Foundation (SLID) is committed to seeing a world free from domestic violence (DV) and sexual assault (SA). SLID works to stop the cycle of domestic violence and sexual assault and its impact through support, education, and advocacy. We believe every survivor of sexual assault and domestic violence is worthy of hope and healing. And we envision a world where every survivor is seen, heard, and supported, so they can feel empowered. So, we’re committed to caring deeply for those in underserved communities so they can heal and rebuild their lives. SLID knows that everyone heals differently. We find the most effective way for victims and survivors to recover from their trauma. We provide holistic healing services and educational programs for raising awareness and prevention. We work with schools, universities, churches, and private groups to bring our DV/SA Curriculum and other programs to local organizations and students. Our services are free and confidential. Our organization serves victims and survivors with emotional support, legal and medical information, and referrals to other community agencies. We provide a variety of support groups for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors. Inspired by our founder's experience dealing with domestic violence and sexual assault, we know that every person heals differently. We believe that all survivors should be seen, heard, and supported to have the opportunity to heal. We are an IRS 501c3 designated public charity (filed as of 2014), and OUR TAX ID NUMBER IS 47-2120872.

This past Saturday, ED Dudley, had the privilege of connecting with the Triangle Association of Black Social Workers (TABSW), sharing our mission, the heart behind what we do, and the impact we strive to make. It was an inspiring gathering with dedicated professionals who share our commitment to supporting and uplifting our communities. Founded in 1975 in Durham, North Carolina, by Dr. Audreye E. Johnson—a founding member of the National Association of Black Social Workers—the Triangle Association of Black Social Workers (TABSW) has been a cornerstone of advocacy and support for the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill areas and beyond. We're honored to build connections with such a legacy-driven organization as we work together to empower those we serve. Today, we pause to honor the strength, resilience, and dedication of our veterans. Domestic Violence Awareness Month may be over, but the work doesn't stop here. It's important to carry the lessons we've learned and keep the conversation going all year long. Take a moment to reflect: ?? How has support impacted you? ?? What "safety" mean to you in your relationships? ?? What can you do to support survivors? ?? In what ways can you educate yourself and others beyond this month? Awareness is just the first step. Let's continue to educate, support, and stand together every day to end domestic violence. #EndDomesticViolence #BeyondOctober #KeepTheConversationGoing #AwarenessInAction #DVAM2024 #WeAreShiningALight

Last month, we had the privilege of uniting with compassionate allies in our community to raise awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. On Purple Thursday, the powerful display of support from the dedicated staff and students at Durham Nativity School, along with our friends at Note in the Pocket, truly warmed our hearts and strengthened our resolve. Your commitment to standing with survivors reflects a beautiful message of hope and resilience. By wearing purple and showing up, you’ve helped us not only to honor those affected by domestic violence but also to spark crucial conversations about safety, support, and the power of community. Each act of solidarity big or small fuels our mission at Shining Light In Darkness to uplift survivors and ensure they are seen, heard, and empowered to rebuild their lives. We are so thankful to have partners like you who believe in a future free from violence. Together, we’re not just raising awareness, we’re igniting change that will resonate well beyond Domestic Violence Awareness Month. With friends like you by our side, we’re building a brighter, safer tomorrow for everyone. While Domestic Violence Awareness Month has ended, our commitment to supporting survivors remains as strong as ever and we invite you to join us in this journey. Stand with us as we continue to bring hope, healing, and vital resources to those impacted by domestic violence. Whether by volunteering, donating, or simply sharing our message, you can be part of the change. Together, we can build a community where every survivor feels safe, supported, and empowered. Let’s keep this momentum going because every action we take brings us closer to a world free from violence. #HealHoldCenter #DVAM2024 #CallforUnity #HopeAndHealing #TogetherWeRise #WeAreShiningALight #SupportSurvivors #PleaseListen2Us #MenWillYouTakeAStand
