Testament to this award is a sign that hangs above his desk that reads "E ?ōpū Ali?i." The proverb instructs one to "have the heart of the chief," where chiefly qualities like kindness, generosity, and composure make a great leader. Forest's leadership and embodiment of this proverb has not only built Shifted into the innovative and equity-focused company it is today, but has also elevated Hawai?i's tech and innovation ecosystem. We thought this was too cool not to share. We surpassed 1 million dispatches on our Hawaii Electric VPP. We have continued to grow the VPP, and proud to report we are still around 90% deployed in multi-family, rental, and LMI households. Equity and access matter, and so do flexible, stackable grid services, and forecasting as part of any VPP.

We love to give back, in fact, we give all staff 2 days a year to take time off to do any form of community service that speaks to them. Last Friday the Hawai?i team took some time to clean microplastics off the beach at Hūnānāniho in Wāimanalo. Connecting to ?aina is important to the work we do, building software and innovative energy programs rooted in ?aina aloha value systems.

As she explains why EDICT is so important “As I begin my career journey, remaining connected to my values as a Native Hawaiian is my priority. At Shifted Energy, I am grateful to have found an organization that sheds light on injustices in my home of O?ahu that I was unaware of. Already in these first few weeks, I have seen firsthand the dire condition of some Hawaiian Homestead homes, the ability for energy-efficient technology to change living situations, and the need for accessible opportunities to that energy-efficient technology. As a Customer Success Intern this summer, I look forward to my journey with the Project Delivery Team, continuing my previous work for a mission of equity in Hawai?i. ?? Fahim Yasir joins our Engineering team. He is pursuing his Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. With a background in Electrical Engineering and Data Science, Fahim brings valuable knowledge and technical skills to the Shifted Energy team. He has worked with the Hawaii State Energy Office and the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute, two leading organizations in Hawaii dedicated to solving energy-related challenges. His projects focused on developing data-driven solutions for various domains of Clean Energy to achieve the State’s economy-wide decarbonization goals. We are honored to have Chloe and Fahim joining us through Elemental Excelerator's EDICT Internship program. These bright minds are thrilled to embark on their internship journey with Shifted Energy. Their passion and dedication will undoubtedly make a significant impact within our organization. ??E Ho?omaika?i ?o Evan Nai?aomana Castro, CEM, Pacific Business News 40 Under 40 Honoree! ?? Shifted Energy is thrilled to announce that Evan, our Director of Project Delivery, has been recognized as one of Hawai?i’s top young leaders by the Pacific Business News 40 Under 40 Award! Joining the 25th annual cohort, this prestigious honor was awarded to just 40 out of 120 nominees. As a Native Hawaiian leader and member of the LGBTQ+ community in the energy and infrastructure space, Evan drives our mission to enable widespread access to energy solutions, especially for communities that are historically disenfranchised. Evan’s passion for sustainability, justice, and innovation distinguishes him as an exemplary leader as he works face to face with our program participants, stakeholders, and internal team to execute on holistic initiatives that better serve our clients, customers, and communities. One of these initiatives is our RISE program, an initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Hawaii Energy, where we work with Department of Hawaiian Home Land families to provide a preliminary energy audit and install a home energy monitor and new heat-pump water heater to reduce their energy burden and shed light on their energy usage. Besides our work in DHHL, Evan remains active in Hawaiian culture through his involvement with Hālau Hula Pua Ali?i ?Ilima and the PA?I Foundation as a cultural practitioner and volunteer at events such as Maoli Arts Movement Wearable Arts Show and Māhū Madness. His leadership as former Ambassador Board Advocacy & Engagement Committee Chair and Climate Crew Industry Partner for the Blue Planet Foundation exemplifies his commitment to an equitable and resilient future. Lastly, we acknowledge that this recognition was a community effort. ?? We're thrilled to congratulate our incredible partner, Hawaii Energy, for being recognized as an Energy Star Partner of the Year!??? With Hawai?i Energy's unwavering support, we've been able to make significant strides in spearheading the energy transition through energy efficiency measures. Together, we've deployed 42 heat pump water heaters in low- to moderate-income indigenous Hawaiian communities, replacing aging electric resistance and solar thermal water heaters. Our data speaks volumes - we've observed a remarkable 70% reduction in our program participant's water heater energy usage, solely through this replacement initiative, made possible through Hawaii Energy's funding. Hawai?i Energy's other programs also speak to their dedication to helping Hawai?i's ratepayers make smarter energy choices: ? They've engaged 253 buildings in benchmarking, helping them meet Honolulu's benchmarking requirements. ? They've facilitated the purchase of over 4,700 ENERGY STAR certified refrigerators and freezers, encouraging customers to "trade up" and recycle older units. Together with Hawai?i Energy, we're paving the way for a more sustainable future, one community at a time. ?? This #AANHPI Month, Shifted Energy is thrilled to spotlight our latest groundbreaking initiative: RISE - our whole home energy electrification program. Launched in collaboration with partners Hawaii Energy, Elemental Excelerator, AES Hawai'i, and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Buildings Up program, we're breaking down barriers and expanding clean energy opportunities for every member of the community. ????We’ve worked with Native Hawaiian Community Partners like L.E.I. Foundation (Wai?ānae Moku) and Ke Kula Nui o Waimānalo (Waimānalo) to provide energy audits, implement energy efficiency measures, and install grid-connected heat-pump water heaters and EV Chargers to relieve energy burdens in the Department of Hawaiian Homelands homestead residences. But that's not all! We're teaming up with green banks to further their energy independence by developing on-bill financed solar PV and battery systems. ???? As I mention in the video at Shifted Energy, we provide demand response to the utility, of the entire capacity that we provide, 90% of it is in lower income multifamily/rental frontline communities.".
