Our vision is to eradicate racism and anti-blackness from organizations across America

关于我们

I'm Vanity Jenkins, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as the CEO of ShiftED Consulting. At ShiftED, we aim to eradicate racism and anti-Blackness from workplaces, schools, and communities across America. ShiftED isn't just a company; it's a movement. We empower individuals, teams, school districts, and entire organizations with the knowledge and skills to dismantle the insidious structures of anti-Blackness and white supremacy culture. We work on all levels: personally, interpersonally, and systemically. Why? Because I believe in a world where everyone, regardless of background or identity, can thrive in inclusive, productive environments built to last. This isn't just a dream; it's a mission I've been dedicated to for two decades. I've worked with nonprofits, leaders, school districts, principals, and companies, sharing my expertise in equitable practices and racial literacy. Over 2,000 leaders nationwide have benefitted from the culturally relevant leadership and organizational equity training I've designed and facilitated. And my teams? They consistently rank in the top 10% of the national Great Places To Work Survey because leadership thrives on inclusion and shared goals. My hope? To see the systems of oppression crumble, replaced by a world where all children and communities can reach their full potential. That's the driving force behind my PhD studies, exploring how DEI policies have failed women of color and allowed colorblind racism to persist. At ShiftED, we're not just consultants but partners in progress. We offer customized solutions tailored to your specific needs and challenges. Together, let's build a future where equity isn't just a word; it's the lived experience of every person, every day. Ready to join the movement? Let's shift together because inclusion matters. • "In case of cabin pressure loss, put your mask on first before assisting others." We’ve all heard this instruction countless times on planes. It’s a simple safety rule, but for years, it didn’t make sense to me. How could I not put my mom’s mask on first when she’s terrified of flying? How could I ignore my sister’s anxiety or my brother’s inattention? My mind ran through every scenario where putting myself first felt selfish and wrong. I chalked it up to "American individualism"—a cultural quirk that didn’t resonate with my values. But in reality, my resistance stemmed from something deeper: the weight of being an eldest daughter of color. Growing up, I was conditioned to think about everyone else first. My needs were secondary, if they even made the list at all. Think about it: How often were you told to “look out for your siblings”? How often was the focus truly on YOU, not you and your siblings? How often did you sacrifice your wants because their needs took precedence? This socialization teaches us that putting ourselves first is selfish. But it’s not. It’s harmful. It spreads us thin. It convinces us we don’t deserve help. It leads to burnout, anxiety, and health issues. Here’s the truth: You don’t have to keep living like this. In fact, you shouldn't it's robbing you of your joy and freedom. Imagine a life where: - You put yourself first without guilt. - You rediscover who you are outside of serving others. - You finally become the center of your own story. I want to help you get there. Join our funder Vanity Jenkins TODAY at 1 PM EST for my free webinar: From Perfect to Peace: An Eldest Daughter’s Guide to Letting Go. Inside this session, you’ll: - Learn practical techniques to break free from perfectionism. - Build tools for managing family dynamics with grace. - Connect with a community of women of color who get it. Learning how to stop juggling everyone's needs healed me from burnout. It opened me up to a new world where I learned how to prioritize myself so that I can live with ease, joy, and clarity. I want to help you get there too! On the other side, you can breathe easier. You can reclaim your time. You can live authentically and fully. Register now! Can’t make it live? No worries—sign up and get the recording. https://lnkd.in/giSdwRbu This is your moment. Will you take it? ??

  • Last year, we partnered with a nonprofit on the verge of abandoning its DEI efforts. Despite implementing mandatory anti-bias training with a previous consultant, their internal culture remained stagnant, and inequities persisted after three years. Through a comprehensive equity audit and a tailored strategic planning process, we pinpointed the gaps and paved the way for genuine transformation. Our professional development programs for staff and group coaching for the leadership team redefined their approach to inclusivity. The key takeaway? Anti-bias training alone isn't enough. Real change requires understanding how structures, systems, and individual biases perpetuate inequities. At ShiftED, we craft equitable systems and processes that uplift those historically excluded and marginalized. Ready to transform your organization? Partner with ShiftED and move beyond training to achieve true equity. #shiftedconsuting?#readytoshift?#maketheshift?#DEIprofessional?#DEIconsultant?#womanownedbusiness?#blackwomanownedbusiness

In recent years, the gentle parenting movement has gained significant momentum. Parents are increasingly recognizing that violence does not help children change behavior; instead, it fosters fear and resentment. Gentle parenting emphasizes empathy, understanding, and non-violent communication to nurture children's development. This approach is proving far more effective in raising compassionate, resilient individuals. On Memorial Day I’m thinking about the need to apply this thinking to governance. A gentle governing approach that prioritizes peace over war, dialogue over destruction, and humanity over hostility is crucial. Governments that lead with empathy, justice, and a commitment to non-violence can truly make the world a better place. War has never and will never solve problems. Instead, it leaves a path of death, destruction, trauma, and shattered lives. Today, I think about my Uncle Bruce, whom I never got to meet because he died in Vietnam. His death was completely preventable had the United States chosen to mind its business. This lesson continues to fall on deaf ears as brutal, vicious wars erupt across the world, many of which have been instigated or funded by the United States of America. There’s also a complexity as a Black person in this country having numerous family memeber serve in the military and experience racism there and in every aspect of their lives. Memorial Day began in 1865 by freed Black folx in Charleston, SC and again, I honor them while questioning the motives and trail of destruction left by the American war machine. I honor and miss my uncle, a young man who should never have had to participate in war. I also honor those who have been slaughtered around the world by the United States’ war machine. I’m thinking about the completely preventable loss of life happening in Palestine, Sudan, The Congo, Haiti, Syria, and New Caledonia. I think about the families broken and the sick twisted idea that violence will create peace. On this Memorial Day, let us reflect on the devastating impact of war and commit to advocating for a future where empathy, diplomacy, and peace prevail over violence and conflict. As we honor those who have fallen, let’s also commit to building a future where fewer lives are lost to the scourge of war. By promoting peace and gentleness in our policies and actions, we can create a legacy of hope and healing for generations to come.

Sometimes, people ask how a DEI consultant supports organizational growth? Let's jump into a Client Case Study? Overview: A company with 1000 employees was grappling with significant disparities in internal data, particularly concerning the representation and advancement of Black and Asian women compared to the rest of the organization. Challenges: Disparities in Representation: Black and Asian women were underrepresented in leadership positions and faced barriers to advancement within the organization. Lack of Inclusive Practices: The company's existing policies and practices failed to support the advancement and retention of diverse talent adequately. Data Gaps: Limited data collection and analysis hindered the company's ability to identify and address systemic inequities effectively. Solution: ShiftED Consulting collaborated closely with the company's leadership to thoroughly assess its DEI landscape. This included: - Collecting and analyzing data on employee demographics, retention rates, promotion rates, and performance evaluations. - Facilitating focus groups and surveys to gather insights from employees, particularly Black and Asian women, about their experiences and challenges within the organization. - Conducting interviews with key stakeholders to understand existing barriers and opportunities for improvement. Based on the findings from the root cause analysis, ShiftED Consulting worked with the company to develop a three-year strategic plan focused on the following key areas: - Cultivating Inclusive Leadership: Providing training and development opportunities around Culturally Competent Management, Equity training Series, & Equitable Performance and Promotion Systems? - Created tailored professional development and affinity spaces for Black and Asian women to pour into and lift them up, given their disparate experiences - Strengthening Data Collection and Analysis: Improving data collection methods and implementing regular reporting mechanisms to track progress and identify areas for improvement. Results: By the second year of implementing the strategic plan, the company witnessed significant improvements in diversity, equity, and inclusion outcomes: Representation of Black and Asian women increased by 33% across all levels of the organization. Employee engagement and satisfaction scores improved, reflecting a more inclusive and supportive workplace culture. Profits nearly doubled, demonstrating the positive impact of diversity and inclusion on organizational performance and growth. Conclusion: Through a holistic approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the company was able to address longstanding disparities and create a more equitable and inclusive workplace for all. By partnering with ShiftED Consulting and committing to a strategic plan focused on systemic change, the company improved diversity outcomes and drove significant business results.
