"Our offer is similar to our competitors..." That crap should never come out of your mouth. I hear it all the time from bad B2B marketers. Me: "Personality isn't a differentiator." Them: "Well, unless the offers are similar." Let me clear this up for you right now. YOUR OFFER SHOULD NEVER BE SIMILAR TO YOUR COMPETITORS. The purpose of every business is to bring unique value to the market. → Not similar value → Not copyable value → Not "I can get that everywhere else" value Unique. One of a kind. Differentiated. I can only get this from you. VALUE. If not, your offer sucks. And you will forever be chasing clients. → offering discounts → competing on price → sending sh*tty outbound emails → jumping on trends to stay 'relevant' ?? You can't fake clarity. It's seen and felt in everything you do: Every word you write (and speak). Every relationship you build. Every offer you create. Every tactic you use. It all communicates one thing: Whether or not you know the unique value you bring to the market. People can see it and feel it immediately. When you have clarity: → they get what you do → they trust you → they buy faster → they pay more → they join wait lists When you don't have clarity: → they don't understand what you do → they take longer to buy (if at all) → they don't reach out → they want discounts → they choose a competitor In other words: A lack of clarity is costing you sales. Don't build a brand strategy with just marketing. That's a recipe for disaster. Your brand is the gut feeling people have about you, your business, and your product. And that gut feeling is influenced by everything you do and don't do. Every call. Every post. Every email. Every sales pitch. Every customer support request. Every website visit. Every deliverable. Every process. Every department in your business impacts your brand. So, why would you let marketing alone create your brand strategy? We require a rep from every department to be involved: → C-suite → Sales → Finance → Product → Marketing → Operations → Customer Support Our biggest breakthroughs with clients do NOT come from marketing. (surprise, surprise) Most came from the founder. Second most came from operations. Some came from a low-level salesperson. Some came from an accounts receivable rep. Some came from customer service. You know how many came from marketing? ZERO. Your brand is a gut feeling about your whole business. Your brand strategy is a whole-company strategy to create that gut feeling. The lesson here? The biggest problem with custom offers? A proposal can take forever to build. - multiple meetings - massive amounts of research - data to collect and sift through - numbers to crunch It's work you're doing for free. All to land the work you'll get paid for. ???? Here's a tactic to use instead: Turn your discovery process into a paid offer. Take all of those meetings and research and data and numbers to crunch... ...and make it a low-cost "strategy" offer. Then, sell the low-cost offer. And use it to upsell your main offer. So, if you develop websites and tech stacks like our client does: - Create a tech strategy offer Uncover what they need, develop out timelines and options, and present it as a low-cost offer. - Bury the proposal in it Provide the costs for you to build what the strategy suggests. - Use it to upsell your development Sell your main, high-ticket offer. You've helped your client determine what they actually need. Given them a plan to get what they need. And a price of what it will cost. AND THEY'VE PAID YOU FOR IT. The best part: They are far more likely to sign your proposal. Because you've worked with them, given them the path forward, and they've already given you money. It's a win-win-win.
