Behind the scenes look at some of the testing going on this week at Sherpa.
We're doing some small dome antenna impact testing at Sherpa Design today (aka breakin' stuff) with to validate whether this component will satisfy the explosive environment ATEX Zone 2 (similar to Class 1/Div 2) requirements we're designing to. We designed and printed a test base with a viewing port and used some clear pipe for the tunnel. Our shop machined the 1 Kg custom weight. One antenna was cooled down to (-40C) in the thermal chamber and another was tested room temp, then we let gravity take over. I'll have post the impact video separately, but it appears the nominal temp dome is no longer 'omni-directional' in shape. The cooled antenna shattered. Haven't tested either for functionality.
