We are pleased to share a recent success from our Trust and Estates group, represented by Darshan Patel Of Counsel at Sherman Silverstein. One of our valued clients, the executor of an estate, faced a daunting six-figure inheritance tax liability. However, through diligent advocacy, we successfully secured an agreement with the New Jersey Division of Taxation to exclude over $600,000 from the estate's valuation. As a result, our client saved more than $65,000 in tax liabilities. Her background in income tax has significantly contributed to the success of our Estates and Trusts Group. Notably, she successfully obtained a full $250,000 refund of Inheritance Tax from the State of New Jersey based on a challenge of the decedent’s domicile. Before joining Sherman Silverstein, Delia handled various litigation matters, developing strong negotiation and mediation skills essential in resolving familial disputes. She also served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Charles A. Little, J.S.C. (Retired), Law Division, Superior Court of New Jersey in Camden County. Delia earned her LL.M. in Taxation from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 2003, her J.D. from Widener University in 2001, and her B.A. from Douglass College, Rutgers University in 1998. She is admitted to practice in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. "I am honored to take on this new role and look forward to contributing to the continued success of our clients and the firm," said Delia. Beyond his practice, Ross is actively engaged in the legal community. He currently serves as the Chair of the Lawyers Advisory Committee for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, District of New Jersey, and was appointed to the Chapter 11 Rules Committee by the Chief Judge of the same Court. Additionally, Ross holds the position of President-Elect and Co-Chair of the Bankruptcy, Budget, and Golf Committees for the Mercer County Bar Association.
