This honor recognizes sheriff’s offices that achieve simultaneous accreditation from the Commission on the Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), the American Correctional Association’s Commission on Accreditation for Corrections (ACA), and the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare (NCCHC). At the 2024 National Sheriffs’ Association Annual Conference in Oklahoma City, OK, the National Sheriffs' Association presented the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, under the leadership of Sheriff Frederick Staly, with the Crime Victim Services Award. This recognition celebrates the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office's dedication to protecting victims and their families through numerous innovative programs and partnerships. Since launching a multi-partner Domestic Violence Initiative Program in 2018, Flagler County has combined community education and victim support with a full spectrum of services, addressing individual needs for impactful assistance. Their Victim Advocate Program tailors support based on each victim's unique needs, ensuring comprehensive care and guidance. NATION’S LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSOCIATIONS ISSUES STATEMENT AHEAD OF 2024 ELECTION FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – (October 30, 2024) The Major County Sheriffs of America (MCSA), the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA), and the Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA) stand ready and united to ensure that Election Day 2024 is secure, safe, and fair. The associations have been in preparation for this year’s election for over a year and a half. Our members have participated in tabletop exercises, received briefings from federal, state, and local partners, shared intelligence and threat information, held conversations with election officials, elected officials, and election volunteers, and coordinated with advocacy groups working to secure the election process such as the Committee of Safe and Secure Elections and the Center for Internet Security. At the 2024 Annual Conference in Oklahoma City, OK, the National Sheriffs’ Association presented Senior Deputy Chambers of the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office with the distinguished Charles "Bud" Meeks Award for Deputy Sheriff of the Year for Valor. Senior Deputy Chambers, a member of the Criminal Apprehension Unit and sworn Special Deputy with the U.S. Marshals Service, exemplified exceptional bravery in January 2023. While tracking a suspect wanted for a violent homicide, Chambers sustained three gunshot wounds from the suspect but managed to return fire, neutralizing the threat. After undergoing two surgeries, Chambers was visited in the hospital by the Honorable Ronald L. Davis, Director of the U.S. Marshals Service, who commended him for his heroism and commitment to protecting the public.
