"Power" https://lnkd.in/eBXvPQJ6
America, we have a power problem! Actually, we have many power problems in my view but no, I am not talking about what it means to have a small number of people that are gazillionaires, and, AND their connection to political power. I am talking about the other type of power. Energy. "The digital economy is sucking up so much power that demand is now straining available supplies of electricity in many parts of the world, leading to concerns over price increases and even widespread outages. And that’s only projected to worsen as more data centers are built." In this in depth piece by Bloomberg they discuss the concept of "distorted power supplies", what regions are at greatest risk, and the implications. Bottom line, we need both more power, different sources of power, and more resilient grids. This is both a short term, and long term, problem that needs big investment. Might the other power issue impact the energy power issue? You tell me. Someone recently asked me what is my word for 2025? It might just be, power. #powerproblem #power #electricity #energy

I am preparing to be interviewed at the headquarters of Goldman Sachs tomorrow about my history at the firm. I received my offer letter on March 10, 1988 to join as an analyst for the annual compensation of $29,500. I became a vice president in May 1994, and went on to be invited to join the partnership on November 30, 1996. Looking back it feels crazy that all of that happened in just eight years. I will have so many stories to share tomorrow and I am honored to have this history included in firm’s archives. Goldman Sachs #goldmansachs #wallstreet

Meet this week's community spotlight, Mayor Jenny Wilson! We asked Mayor Wilson the following... What issues are top of mind for you as we go into 2025? As Mayor of Salt Lake County, I continue to be concerned about cost-of-living impacts on County residents. People are finding things unaffordable which puts a pinch on day-to-day living. We are one of the least of affordable states in the nation for housing and I, along with several other elected officials, continue to work to address that issue. Of course, I’m always concerned about our air quality and water needs and will be working to address those issues. Salt Lake County provides a great quality of life and many services for our residents. We have amazing libraries, arts and cultural facilities and programs, recreation centers, meals on wheels programs, and other programs to help people in need.?Keeping our services accessible and thriving is always a priority.? Where are you drawing inspiration and motivation in this important work? I am always inspired by people in my county. Especially our working class. I love to interact with people who get up every day, manage their families, and get out the door to work. We have such a diversified economy that we have a range of jobs and workers and I’m always amazed to see how, it all comes together. On a personal level, I continue to be inspired by my father, Ted Wilson, who passed away this past year. My dad was an amazing educator, former mayor, athlete, and mostly just a great human.?I miss him but he continues to inspire me every day. Aa a 5th-generation Utahn, born and raised in Salt Lake City, Jenny was recently re-elected as the Mayor of Salt Lake County. In 2005, she was the first woman elected to the Salt Lake County Council and helped establish the Jordan River Commission. Jenny also co-established the Salt Lake County opioid task-force. She has worked with numerous orgs, like Sundance, Voices for Utah Children, the University of Utah's Moran Eye Center & the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympic Games. She is also proud to have served as chief of staff to Congressman Bill Orton in Washington DC in the 1990s. ? We love being in community with you, Jenny! #sheplace #shemoney #sisteringup #utahwomen #utahwomensequity #investinwomen #shemoneycommunity #utahwomeninbusiness?

Meet this week's community spotlight, Senator Karen Kwan! We asked Senator Kwan the following... What issues are top of mind for you as we go into 2025?? As always, my priorities are language access, public safety, senior issues and strong education. I know that my constituents are largely working families and the cost of living is a concern. In 2025 I will focus on working with my colleagues to enact policy that will help our working families.? Where are you drawing inspiration and motivation in this important work?? My diverse district on the westside of Salt Lake county inspires me greatly. I see how hard people work, yet the Westside often feels ignored or bypassed. I draw connections to my cultural background of hard work and humility. The westside needs representatives who are champions for their districts. I am proud to serve my communities. Senator Kwan is proud to be the first Chinese-American in the Utah Legislature. Karen was appointed to the Utah Senate District 12 in 2023 upon the retirement of Senator Karen Mayne, and then re-elected in 2024. She is a long-term resident of Taylorsville, where she lives with her family. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, both from Pepperdine University. She has a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Utah. Karen is passionate about serving her community. She worked as program assistant at the Asian Association of Utah and Adviser at the Center for Ethnic Student Affairs at the University of Utah. Before running for office, she sat on the Governor’s Asian-American Council. ? We love being in community with you, Karen! #sheplace #shemoney #sisteringup #utahwomen #utahwomensequity #investinwomen #shemoneycommunity #utahwomeninbusiness?

Meet this week's community spotlight, Representative Hoang Nguyen! We asked Rep. Nguyen the following... What issues are top of mind for you as we go into 2025?? "Continued rollback of women's rights and transgender rights. Ongoing destabilizing of our public education system. Rising cost of living for people, aka. affordability. Air and water protection.?" Where are you drawing inspiration and motivation in this important work?? "The losses we've had on the national and federal level have been heartbreaking. I have encouraged myself and others to focus on local; what we can control and influence within our own communities. The conversations with other local business owners have centered around how we ensure that our own businesses provide safe and secure places for our employees and patrons. The conversations with other community leaders have been focused on how we support each other's initiatives on making this a better community for all." Hoang Nguyen is the Managing Partner of Sapa Investment Group, which includes restaurants, bars, bakeries and a vertically-integrated medical cannabis company. Hoang came to America as a young child with her family as refugees from Vietnam. She grew up on the west side of Salt Lake and attended the University of Utah and went on to earn her MBA. Hoang serves Utah through her commitment and involvement with local and international organizations that are dedicated to ignite change through equity, prosperity, and inclusivity. Hoang has been elected to the House of Representatives in District 23. Hoang will be the first refugee and first Vietnamese American ever elected to the state legislature. ? We love being in community with you, Hoang! #sheplace #shemoney #sisteringup #utahwomen #utahwomensequity #investinwomen #shemoneycommunity #utahwomeninbusiness?
