Inspiring all to achieve their greatest level of independence and resilience.
关于我们
Founded in 1970, ShelterCare is a private, nonprofit human-services agency directed by a board of community volunteers. We strive to ensure everyone has access to stable, affordable housing and the support to live as fully and independently as possible. ShelterCare offers a range of housing solutions combined with support services for vulnerable community members who are homeless or on the verge of homelessness. Our programs help people keep their current housing or recover lost housing. Then we work with clients to build the skills necessary to stabilize their housing.

Staff Highlight!! Today we are highlighting ShelterCare staff Rebecca Hill. Rebecca is an Adult Mental Health Peer Support Specialist in SC's Permanent Supported Housing. We are so grateful that Rebecca has chosen to work for ShelterCare! Please give her a shout-out for the incredible work she is doing! What initially drew you to ShelterCare? "I strongly believe in ShelterCare's mission and vision of?meeting people where they are and supporting them to achieve their greatest level of independence and resilience. Housing is a right!" What is your favorite part about what you do here/or a ShelterCare accomplishment for you? "Supporting my clients to achieve their goals is extremely satisfying. I love being able to say "Look at what you've accomplished for yourself, excellent work!" Sometimes it's an small goal, such as checking the mail three times a week, while other clients have bigger dreams of getting sober and have entered into Intensive Outpatient?Programs or Residential services while in their PSH program. I recently attended Oregon Recovers Advocacy day with my THW/Peer supervisor Crys Webb, where we advocated for current housing bills directly related to more funding in critical areas of deficit in recovery funding and recovery housing. I am also now the co-chair of LEAGUE, where I have an opportunity to connect with others in the community on big issues within Lane County." A fun fact about myself.... "I'm a cat person, but will give your dog loves too! I rediscovered my love for camping last summer and already have 5 trips planned this year!"

The month of March is nationally recognized as Women's History Month! We would like to take this moment to recognize the women-led director team at ShelterCare! Our Executive Director Jennifer DeVault, joined us in April of 2024 as our Senior Director of Behavioral Health and in January stepped into the role as Executive Director! Jennifer loves a good challenge, she values collaboration and is excited to push ShelterCare towards being the best organization it can be! She has a strong background in mental health, people management, and organizational leadership. Our Senior Director of Housing Services, Dana Petersen-Crabb, has been with ShelterCare since 2009. She has held a variety of roles at ShelterCare including Resource Counselor, Advocate, Assistant Program Manager, Program Manager, and now Director! Dana leads with humor and isn't afraid to ask the hard questions. Through her leadership, our housing programs continually have successful audits and outcomes. Our Senior Director of Development, Catrina Mathewson joined ShelterCare in 2018. Cat values creating fundraising events that are both fun and accessible to donors of all giving levels. She is active in our community and active on the volleyball court. Most often seen with her small dog, Wanda. Our Director of Human Resources, Kristi Clarida, SHRM-CP, joined us in August of 2024! She is detail oriented, compassionate, a quick learner, and is currently working on her Master of Jurisprudence- Labor and Employment Law at Tulane University Law School! #WomensHistoryMonth

A warm welcome to Jen Hilliard-Walsh, who has recently joined the ShelterCare Development Team as our new Philanthropy Officer! We are so excited to have her!! "Hi! I’m Jen, mom of 2 teens (and 4 cats) and have called Eugene home for the past 21 years. I’ve also owned and operated Capitello Wines with my husband for nearly as many years! In my rare spare time, I do love to explore the PNW, cook lavish meals, root for the University of Oregon Ducks and my Tarheels, and am a self professed Broadway geek (I’ve seen over 150 shows and counting!). As the new Philanthropy Officer with ShelterCare, my goal is to help individuals, families, and organizations align their philanthropic goals with opportunities that create lasting impact in our diverse community. I specialize in building relationships, crafting giving strategies, and ensuring our supporters see the tangible difference they make. Whether it’s through major gifts, planned giving, or community initiatives, I’m here to help turn passion into purpose. If you're interested in making a difference or exploring ways to maximize your philanthropic impact, I’d love to connect!"

Dana Petersen-Crabb aced her 2025 Cyber Awareness Challenge! Here she is giving us a skeptical look that tells us she knows how to fight off criminals online, that may try to steal our HUD tenants' income information.
