#Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate gratitude and togetherness, but for many in our community—especially those we serve at Shelter House—this season can be filled with hardship. For individuals and families experiencing homelessness or domestic violence, the holidays often amplify their challenges. Over the next two months, we can anticipate to serve nearly 1,500 individuals across our shelters and programs - half of whom are likely to be children. Imagine the holiday season without a place to call home. With your support, we can bring hope and create a bit of holiday magic by providing housing solutions for these families in need. Thanks to your unwavering support, you provide more than just warmth. You offer the priceless gifts of hope, safety, and sustainable solutions to those in need. Your generosity truly transforms lives, and for that, we are deeply grateful. https://lnkd.in/d_-aupn9
关于我们
Shelter House, Inc. is a community-based, non-profit organization serving families experiencing homelessness and victims of domestic violence in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties (Virginia). Our organization was formed in 1981, when several ecumenical groups came together to better serve Fairfax County's low-income population. In 1985, Shelter House's facility was moved to its current location in Falls Church. In 2007, Shelter House was awarded Fairfax County's contract to operate the Katherine K. Hanley Family Shelter in Fairfax. In 2010, Shelter House became the first non-profit to operate Artemis House, Fairfax County’s only 24 hour Domestic Violence Shelter.

Homelessness is caused by the lack of affordable housing and limited amount of housing assistance available to those who need it. High rent burdens, domestic violence, overcrowding and many other barriers contribute to homelessness. Advocating for affordable housing, rapid re-housing, permanent supportive housing, and vouchers are essential in ending the homeless epidemic. https://lnkd.in/gGGRnxyA

On #VeteransDay we honor the courageous individuals who have defended our freedom. Many may not realize that veterans face a higher risk of homelessness than the general population. Significant progress has been made in providing housing for veterans experiencing homelessness, thanks largely to initiatives like Rapid-Rehousing. Shelter House has implemented this model to shorten shelter stays and serve more households each year, helping veterans and their families secure stable housing. Let’s recognize and honor the bravery of those who have served and continue to serve our nation.

Take a listen!! https://bit.ly/4dZGQ6w “It’s an honor to get to speak about the work that we’re doing at Artemis House, operated by Shelter House. Survivors of sexual and domestic violence have a right to housing — there’s so much work to be done to increase the availability of affordable housing, improve shelter services, and educate our community of the extensive barriers faced by survivors… let’s not forget - housing is a human right.” -Elisabeth Tropea, Director of Artemis House Region I
