In this week's edition of The Shelby Report Pick Six, we lead off with sad news, as Houchens Food Group announced the death of President and COO James “Jimmy” Nichols. He had led the Bowling Green, Kentucky-based company for the past 14 years. Moving a bit farther south to Louisiana, Associated Grocers Baton Rouge shared the appointment of company veteran David Politz as interim president and CEO. He will succeed Manard Lagasse Jr., who is leaving to pursue other opportunities. Next, our Illinois Market Profile looks at how independent grocers are becoming a growing segment in the state. The region also is seeing several non-traditional grocery concepts taking hold, including farm-to-table markets, subscription-based grocery boxes and online grocery delivery services. In the Southwest, H-E-B’s Central Market has unveiled preliminary drawings for a location in Uptown Dallas, Texas. President Stephen Butt said they hope to begin construction as soon as possible.
