It's Junior Ski Patrol season! Thank you Justin Dersham for helping to tell the story of ski patrol and highlight our junior ski patrol program in the process!
Ski patrol is one of the toughest, most physically demanding, and high-risk jobs on the mountain. It takes strength, skill, and resilience to keep people safe in extreme conditions. And yet, like so many spaces in the outdoor industry, it has long been a male-dominated field. That’s why this project remains one of my all-time favorites. For International Women’s Day #IWD, I want to share a piece I directed and for Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, highlighting the incredible women of ski patrol—a team that pushes boundaries every single day. But we didn’t stop at documenting their work. We were also able to highlight SheJumps, an organization dedicated to getting more women and girls into the outdoors, and brought over 30 young girls to shadow these patrollers for a day. They got to see firsthand that no job is out of reach—that they, too, could grow up to be the ones dropping into avalanche zones, making life-saving rescues, and leading on the mountain. ?? Representation matters. When young girls see women in roles like this, it shifts their mindset about what’s possible. They’re not just told they can do anything—they see it for themselves. ?? This project was about more than just skiing. It was about showing the next generation that courage, leadership, and grit aren’t defined by gender. To all the women breaking barriers—on the mountain, in the workplace, and beyond—today is for you. Keep pushing forward, and let’s keep making space for the next generation to follow. What’s a moment in your life where you saw someone break barriers and it changed how you saw the world? Let’s celebrate those stories today. ?? #InternationalWomensDay #SheJumps #WomenWhoLead #SkiPatrol
