President Biden’s administration aimed to bolster the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) by hiring approximately 87,000 new employees by 2031, primarily to address expected retirements and enhance tax enforcement. However, this plan faced significant political opposition and has undergone substantial changes. In early 2023, the Republican-controlled House voted to rescind nearly $80 billion allocated for the IRS, aiming to block the hiring of these new employees. Subsequently, under President Donald Trump administration, a directive was issued to reduce the federal workforce, leading to the termination of approximately 6,700 IRS employees, many of whom were recent hires from the previous expansion efforts. As of February 2025, the IRS has not achieved the hiring goals set by President Biden. Instead, the agency is experiencing a reduction in its workforce due to policy shifts and budgetary constraints imposed by the current administration. #caleg #cabudget #IRS

NEW MEMBERS OF CA LEGISLATURE GUIDE for 2025-26 There are 24 new members of the Assembly and 13 new members of the Senate, for a total of 37 new legislative members. That means nearly one-third of the California Legislature will be new to their office. That’s a significant amount of change in a single election cycle. One of these new members, Suzette Valladares, previously held an Assembly seat but lost her re-election bid in 2022. She returns to the Legislature after her successful run in November 2024. Of special note, the largest class of women legislators in the state’s history will be sworn in, bringing the total to 49% of its members being women. This marks a record high of 59 women who will serve in the next session—double the number of women serving just seven years ago.
