With the support of our partner Abbott, Shedd Aquarium continues to spark compassion, curiosity and conservation for the aquatic animal world. The Abbott Oceanarium brings guests of all ages eye to eye with snacking sea otters, roaring sea lions, penguins, beluga whales and more – molding core memories and unforgettable moments of wonder. As we continue to accomplish milestones moving us closer to our Centennial Commitment, we are immensely grateful to fellow Chicago institution Abbott that has generously donated $10 million. This monumental gift will aid us in continuing to more seamlessly welcome guests into our one-of-a-kind, 3-million-gallon Abbott Oceanarium.

We are working to #ReverseTheRed ? ??! But what does that mean? Shedd is partnering with Reverse the Red to reverse the negative trend of biodiversity loss and stop the extinction of species listed on the IUCN Species Survival Commission Red List, commonly referred to as “the endangered species list.” We recently made Reverse the Red Species Pledges for 28 species – spanning invertebrates and mammals to reptiles, sharks and coral, reaffirming our commitment to protect some of the most at risk and under-researched species in the world including ... ?? Southern sea otters ???? Zebra sharks ??? Sunflower sea stars ???? Bowmouth guitarfish ???? Northern Bahamian rock iguanas ?? Queen conch ?? Corals ???? Freshwater mussels Learn more about how you can help us act for animals – https://bit.ly/4bdDnkK!

Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy and dedication to service for all. His belief that everyone has the ability to make a difference is a truth that we can all embrace. As we reflect on the profound impacts of Dr. King Jr.’s work, we recognize that there is still significant work to do. This principle is what drives us to build programs and partnerships aimed at providing all Chicago youth with access to nature and experiential, place-based, environmental education. We look forward to the continued work of engaging, uplifting and empowering our city’s youth as one of many ways we can take intentional actionable steps towards a more equitable future.
