As a proud recipient of NJDEP’s “Rising Star” Award, we’re committed to tackling food waste and food insecurity in #NewJersey. Since the beginning of 2024, we have recovered 100,000 nutritious meals that would have otherwise gone to our landfills, emitting lots of #methane! Instead, we’re delivering them to our neighbors that need it the most. By redistributing surplus food from large cafeterias, we’re creating positive environmental and social impacts across our community. ??? ??We're thrilled to announce that we have officially recovered and delivered 100,000 prepared meals to food-insecure families and individuals in New Jersey in 2024! Thanks to our amazing community and partners, we have more than tripled our impact since 2022, when we served 30,000 meals, then 62,000 meals in 2023. But we’re not stopping here! ?? With just 2 months left, we have a goal of recovering and delivering 120,000 meals by the end of the year, and we need your help to make it happen! ?? ??? World Food Day: A Time to Reflect and Take Action Today is #WorldFoodDay and this year's theme is "Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future." We are reminded of the vital role food plays in all of our lives and the difference access to nutritious meals can make for families in our community. At Share My Meals, we believe that everyone has the right to healthy food, and that surplus food should be redirected to feed people in need instead of filling landfills. As one of our recipients beautifully shared: "Thank you for providing this amazing food donation service for my family. It is truly a GIFT... You've given me the opportunity to spend more time with my loved ones, connecting, building stronger bonds, and caring for their physical needs. Thank you, from my heart." We're excited to share valuable resources with the 70 families in our program! During meal deliveries, our amazing volunteers are distributing two important flyers designed to support and empower families: 1?? "Food Available Near Me" – A helpful guide with a list of local food pantries and hot meal programs to help them access additional nutritious meals when they need them most ????. 2?? "Food Waste Prevention Tips" – Practical tips to keep food fresh longer and understand expiration dates, helping them stretch their groceries and reduce waste ?????. ?? These resources were made possible thanks to the generous support of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA). Our Fall 2024 Impact From July to September, we’ve made tremendous strides in fighting food insecurity and reducing food waste with your support. Together, we have: ?? Recovered 36,292 meals for families in need ?? Saved 213,846 pounds of CO2 equivalent emissions That’s a +27% increase compared to the previous quarter! ?? These numbers reflect our ongoing commitment to tackling food insecurity while making a positive impact on the environment. Every surplus meal recovered helps nourish a family in need and reduces harmful emissions, contributing to a healthier, more sustainable future. ?? This success wouldn’t be possible without the invaluable support of our food donors, the dedication of our volunteers, and the collaboration of our nonprofit partners.
