We are capping off Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week, but as our acting Philly Pantry Program Director Katie Paolizzi says, "Hunger and homelessness are issues that require us to be radical in our compassion and care for people facing them. H&H Awareness Week is so important to highlight what our community faces, but these issues don’t resolve themselves after November 22nd." These issues are closer to home than one might think. Beyond H&H Week, please continue to spread resources, donate to reputable causes and volunteer to help those facing hunger and homelessness.

For the second year, the Share team joined the dedicated volunteers of Cecil & Grace Bean’s Soup Kitchen in Norristown to serve a hot Thanksgiving meal to our neighbors during Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week. We put together 198 plates and distributed 65 coats + winter clothing, hats & gloves ?????????? Cecil & Grace Bean's Soup Kitchen prepares & serves over 700 meals weekly to those struggling with food insecurity in the Norristown community—and they could always use more hands to do it! During our recent program team farm day we harvested a bounty ?? Scallions, collards, Swiss chard, bok choy, turnips, peppers, and basil ????? After harvesting everything together, the team took a walk to place dozens of bags of fresh produce in the Share Community Fridge. “It’s so wonderful that the farm produce we grow is going right to our neighbors,” says Ellie Kaplan, our Farm Manager.

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) serves nearly 30 million children every school day. President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom. Meet Share’s National School Lunch Program team and find out how we’re doing our part to keep students fed around Greater Philadelphia. #NSLW24

Thanks to both Share Food Program and Whole Foods Market team members for helping us load up on a ton of fresh & free food to quickly redistribute to community members experiencing food insecurity. Last week’s “Stuff the Van” event at Wynnewood store was one of several held across the country to benefit Whole Foods Market Nourishing Our Neighborhoods recipients like Share Food Program.
