English Avenue is a historic neighborhood in Atlanta, characterized by its rich cultural heritage and diverse community, and like many communities, there is a greater need for affordable housing. Collaborative efforts among city officials, developers, and community organizations are essential to create sustainable solutions and #557LindsaySt_Mixeduse stands true to such collaboration. oaksATL Community Development has been tirelessly leading the charge in expanding affordable housing in the English Avenue Community. 557 Lindsay Apartments is prominently located on North Ave, one block from Joseph E Lowery Blvd and right across the street from the Historic Lindsay Street Baptist Church. Located just 0.3 miles from the Beltline Westside Connector Trail, the project will offer a three-story, mixed-use development that includes much-needed affordable multifamily residential units over ground-floor commercial space and a laundry facility. The development will bring six high-quality, two-bedroom, one-bath affordable housing units to the neighborhood. The units' sizes range from 791 to 866 square feet.?The 1,630-square-foot community-oriented ground floor will include two commercial retail spaces and a laundry facility. We are thankful to live in a city that prioritizes affordable housing and family-sized housing projects. OUR HISTORY The co-founders of the firm, Mark Hill and Herman Howard, met at the beginning of their professional careers while working together at the internationally renowned NY firm of I.M. Pei + Partners which later became Pei Cobb Freed + Partners. They each went on to significant leadership roles in nationally prominent firms prior to forming SHAPE in late 2015. In mid 2021, Mark Hill assumed the position as sole principal of the firm. He has studied under several master architects and has worked on and led many exciting and award-winning projects across the country. His history and project involvement includes several project types outlined in this portfolio.
