Over the last several years there has been a pattern of the “industrialization” of building a startup. The idea that there is a single formula to building a startup is absolute nonsense. The idea of an MVP to solve a big problem in a market doesn’t make much sense. A Minimum Viable Product may do well serving a Minimum Viable Market. It may be time to expunge some of this vocabulary.

Sunday Scaries Episode 24. Probably the most talked about topic for startups.

Too many construction and real estate tech startups are tracking problems, vs actually solving problems. This is the case with almost every workflow tool. For example- Software that tracks RFIs vs getting rid of all RFIs. Especially annoying when AI startups think this way.

Startups that are in fundraising mode. Here are some tips. 1. Research VCs deeply. 2. Determine fit. Your conclusion should be “we are a no-brainer for these folks” 3. What to research? Backgrounds of GPs, stage, amounts and 3 portfolio companies that meet a pattern that aligns with your startup. 4. Look for at least 3 ways to get in front of the GPs. Reaching out to a founder in their portfolio is an easy method. 5. If you must cold email, draft the best email of your life.
