From the Desk of our Executive Director As Stillbirth Awareness Month comes to an end, my heart is heavy. Although I'm grateful for progress, we have a ways to go with dismantling stigma and the myths associated with pregnancy and infant loss. We at The Shades of Blue Project will continue to address this issue daily along with others nationwide. I will, in the midst of the sadness, lend you some of the Joy we experienced, surprising one of my good Sistar Tomeka Isaac with Jase's Journey. Together myself and members of my team joined Tomeka and others in completing a 5k in honor of her son, Jace, who was born still. And we also walked in honor of my baby girl Troya. These are the moments that even in the mist of sadness, I am motivated to keep pushing so that no one has to struggle after such a traumatic experience. To all the Mamas, Fathers, and Loved Ones out there who may read this, I'm sending you warm Big Hugs and remember to take this journey one day at a time. If you are looking for a resource to help navigate this topic we have created a simple guide for Mamas, Partners, Dads and Families to help you navigate this journey without feeling alone?????? https://lnkd.in/gpf2_PMs #HealingAfterLoss #TheConversationContinues #BlackMamasDoMatter

?? A Message from Kay Matthews, Executive Director of The Shades of Blue Project ?? To all my beautiful Black girls, young and grown, my beloved Sistars near and far: Today, we celebrate Black Girl Day Off—a day just for us. A day to breathe, to rest, and to remember that you deserve joy. You deserve peace. You deserve to put yourself first, even if it’s just for a moment. This day is about more than simply taking time off; it’s about reclaiming our joy, our wellness, and our power. To all the little Black girls watching and learning, and to my strong, unstoppable sisters who continue to inspire—remember that rest is your right. You are worthy of every bit of happiness and self-care you can give yourself today. So, go ahead, choose joy. Embrace the beauty of pausing and filling your cup. Each year on October 11th, we proudly celebrate Black Girl Day Off—a day devoted to uplifting and prioritizing the mental health of Black women. Following World Mental Health Day, this important day highlights the significance of mental well-being specifically for Black women, encouraging them to take a much-needed day to focus on their emotional health. Black Girl Day Off serves as a reminder of the deep impact stress can have, acting as a precursor to chronic illnesses such as heart disease, breast cancer, and more. For Black women, stress is often intensified by the added layers of racial and gender discrimination, contributing to a cycle of health and socioeconomic disparities. This is why Black Girl Day Off is so essential—it emphasizes both awareness and the power of self-care. Why We Love Black Girl Day Off: This day is rooted in the values of self-care, community, and celebration. By dedicating time for rest, reflection, and rejuvenation, Black Girl Day Off encourages Black women to nourish themselves and, in turn, lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. It’s a powerful reminder of the necessity of regular breaks for creativity, productivity, and, most importantly, happiness. What will you do for yourself to honor Black Girl Day Off? #TheConversationContinues #BlackMamasDoMatter #DoItForTheCulture #WeChooseJOY #BlackGirlDayOff #TheShadesOfBlueProject #RESTIsMandatoryNOTOptional
