Thank you WCBS | CBS New York for sharing #ShabbatClub’s plan to honor with a special yahrzeit candle the hostages and the lives we lost on October 7th. The shofar traditionally symbolizes a call for spiritual awakening and freedom. This year on rosh hashanah, its significance holds profound resonance. It’s sound is not just a call for personal reflection or redemption, but one for the freedom and safety of the entire jewish people, as we pray for the safe return of our friends and family taken hostage exactly 365 days ago. We remember Hersh Goldberg-Polin, whose parents remind us: “?? ??? ??? ???? ???,” or “Every person is an entire universe. We must save all these universes.” May we carry the strength and spirit of the shofar with us into this new year. May its call remind us of our hope and unity as we honor those we have lost. Shabbat Club was founded less than one year ago, and for it to be recognized as playing a small part in reuniting NYC Jews as we navigate tough times is the perfect reminder that even in the face of challenges, tradition and community brings us all comfort and strength. Our mission and branding is inspired by my love of food, as well as my safta, who passed away two years ago and made me who I am today.
