SGH’s Candace Atchison, EIT, Charles Ho, P.E., and Megan Toumanios participated in the Sealant, Waterproofing, and Restoration Institute’s (@SWRI) Fall Technical Meeting in New Orleans, LA. Candace and Charles presented “University Library Renewal: A Case Study in Window Sealant Repairs” and discussed investigating systemic water leakage at newly installed windows and designing repairs. Their case study highlighted the importance of quality control and proactive maintenance plans for in-situ repairs.

Dustin is located in Denver, CO, and focuses on failure and corrosion analyses and fatigue characterization.

The International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) honored SGH during the 2024 ICRI Project Awards program with an Award of Merit in the Parking Structures category for our work at the CBD Parking Garage in Malden, MA: https://lnkd.in/e6c6brfS SGH provided structural engineering services to correct structural deficiencies and provide concrete repairs. Congratulations to our project team, including the City of Malden, Hayner/Swanson, and Structural Preservation Systems!

Volunteers in SGH’s Waltham, MA, office teamed up to make blankets to benefit the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (MSPCC). These blankets will go directly to young foster children during the winter.

This Friday, November 22, SGH’s Matthew Colturi, P.E., CPHC, Cheryl Saldanha, P.E., Anya LaRoche, Ali Yalaz, P.E., LEED AP, and Aris Tsiopoulos will host a panel discussion webinar to review how Passive House (PH) design impact a building enclosure’s energy efficiency and carbon footprint: https://lnkd.in/dx8SPYBs The conversation will identify opportunities to incorporate PH design principles, review how building enclosure performance drives efficiency and enhances occupant health and comfort, and discuss the unique challenges of implementing PH in existing buildings.

The Frick Collection in New York is set to open in April 2025 after nearly a decade-long renovation project: https://lnkd.in/ewFYrrC2 Selldorf Architects is leading the renovation, which includes a nineteenth-century Italianate mansion and gardens. SGH served as the structural engineer of record and provided building enclosure services for the world-class art museum.

ICRI - International Concrete Repair Institute featured SGH’s Giuliana Zarada in a recent “Women in ICRI Spotlight.” https://lnkd.in/gEPkZTGC Giuliana is based in our Waltham, MA, office and serves on multiple ICRI committees, including Committee 320-Concrete Repair Materials and Methods, and the Women in ICRI Committee. SGH’s Alexander Stephani, PE, Kevin Poulin, and Filippo Masetti recently authored “Mastering the Monumental Stair” for STRUCTURE Magazine: https://lnkd.in/evVfUdbA Co-authored by Plan B Engineering’s Andrew Angelilli, and Guy Nordenson and Associates’ Xiaoxiao Wu PE and Guy Nordenson, the article reviews the four-story monumental stair at Studio Museum in Harlem, NY. The feature allows visitors to view the artwork along the 85-foot-tall vertical art gallery.
