The "Boots on the Waterfront" are responsible for maintaining the Port of San Francisco's 7.5 miles of waterfront and the preservation and improvement of the Port's fishing harbors, ferry landings, public parks, cargo terminals, piers, promenades, buildings, and more. Today, I'd like to showcase the boots of the Port's dive shop! The Port's dive team is one of our highly skilled trades responsible for the underwater maintenance you can't necessarily see. Being that their work is below the surface, the diving profession sometimes goes unseen to the general public but plays a vital role in the quality and maintenance of underwater structures. At the Port of San Francisco, our divers are regularly called upon for various maintenance, inspection, and repair work. The piers along the waterfront take on a lot of stress - salt water, currents, swells, and storm impact. Their work to reinforce our aging piers is crucial to the city’s overall coastline resiliency and Port infrastructure. In addition to their routine day-to-day maintenance and projects, our dive team has also been integral support and partners for the Embarcadero Seawall Program. Their mission this morning was to retrieve a pile guide from a damaged dock. Pile guides, also known as pile holders or pile hoops, are?marine hardware used to secure floating docks to pilings, allowing the dock to move with the water level while maintaining stability. Shout out to the Port's dive shop for keeping us afloat, literally! ??: Arianna Cunha, MPH

Across the waterfront, the incredible women of the Port play a vital role in keeping operations running strong. The Port is proud to be run and supported by exceptional women, and we celebrate their contributions every day to creating a more vibrant, resilient, and inclusive waterfront. As we close out Women’s History Month, we reaffirm our ongoing commitment to supporting and empowering women, now and in the future. #WomensHistoryMonth

Port staff gathered to wish "As Sounds Turn to Noise" a great journey as it heads to New York City! Loaned by Hauser & Wirth Gallery, this nine-foot bronze sculpture has graced the Embarcadero promenade between Pier 1 and the Ferry Building since July 2024. On, March 20, 2025, it was deinstalled and is now on its way to Hauser & Wirth Gallery in New York City, where it will be part of the upcoming exhibition Resilience of Scale, opening in April. The Port of San Francisco and San Francisco Arts Commission extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who welcomed "As Sounds Turn to Noise" by Thomas J Price to the waterfront. Exciting art is on the horizon! On April 10, the 45-foot "R-Evolution" statue will be unveiled in Embarcadero Plaza. The Port of San Francisco’s 8th Annual Contract Open House brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and small businesses to explore the future of maritime operations, sustainability, and economic growth. This event helps small businesses connect with large contractors, providing a space to network, learn about upcoming projects, and access new opportunities. Year after year, we hear how valuable this event is for building relationships and breaking down barriers to contracting. A big thank you to everyone who joined us!
