For Irene Garcia, the Bay Area isn’t just where she lives, it’s who she is.” Born and raised in San Francisco, and now a Marin resident, she’s spent the last 11 years at our Food Bank finding new ways to serve her neighbors. As Associate Director of Community Building, Irene is helping to lead the charge of Community Markets, an innovative initiative that reimagines food assistance. These markets look and feel like grocery stores, giving people the dignity of choice while connecting them to services that tackle the root causes of hunger. “Ending hunger isn’t just about handing out food, it’s about lifting folks out of poverty,” Irene says. Learn more about Irene’s impact and how Community Markets are providing our participants with more than food. ???? ?? https://loom.ly/-IJ8tv8

We are here to end hunger. I am inspired by the collective actions of everyday people working together to make sure our neighbors have the food they need today — and to advocate for solutions that will end hunger tomorrow. Together, individual voices make change. Through partnerships and innovation, we’ve transformed our services and co-created solutions that not only provide access to food but also uphold the dignity of our neighbors. With your support, we’re advancing public policy solutions and building a future where everyone has access to the food they need. Thank you for making this work possible. Whatever your actions, however you contributed to this year’s success, we are deeply grateful. - Tanis Crosby, Executive Director, San Francisco-Marin Food Bank ?? A few weeks ago, the streets of Chinatown shimmered under a steady downpour, rain drumming against rooftops and streaking down windows. At the Presbyterian Church of Chinatown pantry, volunteers pressed on to serve our participants, unfazed by the weather. In the midst of it all, tangerines sat glistening with fresh raindrops, vibrant as ever, just like the community that came together that day. ???

When I lived in Austin, TX, I did a TON of volunteering. It felt energizing and inspiring to be heavily involved in my community. But since I moved a few times and my sense of "community" became more distributed, I'm a little embarrassed to admit that my volunteering efforts dropped off. So, this year, I set an intention to do more community service wherever I happen to be. Since my new role is remote, I wasn't expecting it to happen at work. However, when our company offsite was approaching, Britta Glade reached out to propose that our team volunteer at SF-Marin Food Bank-- the intention was already starting to come true! This week, we had a great time connecting, working together, and packing 550 grocery bags for real people in the community. If you're planning an offsite or team activity, I highly recommend making volunteering a part of it. The boundaries of our human community extend across the globe, and it always feels good to give back! Humbled to take a few hours to give back to the community today with Fortinet and Zynga’s Volunteer Time Off programs. Alon Zaslavsky and I helped to build 897 boxes, 18,816 lbs of food, that get distributed to local Churches that get to families in San Francisco and Marin counties through the SF-Marin Food Bank. Proud to work for a company that supports these activities and grateful to volunteer with my partner on his birthday as we set an example for our next generation! It takes just a little to make a big impact. #volunteer #feedingAmerica #FortinetintheCommunity #zcares

I had a wonderful time working this morning with the SF-Marin Food Bank at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church! ?? Each week we make a comprehensive grocery bag for individuals who need our assistance! It is so much fun to work hard for a meaningful cause and connect with other volunteers! I plan on continuing my service, and highly recommend this opportunity to others who wish to give back! Link to SF-Marin Food Bank https://lnkd.in/gsuBvPq5
