Looking for ways to reduce food waste? Check out this quick and delicious recipe! ??
San Francisco’s Chief Climate and Sustainability Executive | Director of SF Environment | Implementing SF’s Climate Action Plan
?? Join Me in Fighting Food Waste—One Banana at a Time! ?? Food waste is a massive problem. San Francisco alone composts 550+ tons daily, yet 12,800 tons of perfectly edible food still end up in landfills every year. ?? That’s why I’m on a mission to fight food waste—armed with a microwave, an overripe banana, and (very questionable) acting skills. ?? In honor of National Banana Bread Day that just passed on Feb. 23, I'm sharing my ridiculously simple food recovery hack. And yes, this marks my LinkedIn acting debut— Ryan Reynolds, eat your artichoke regenerating Deadpool heart out! ?? ?? ?? My Food-Saving Banana Bread Mug Cake: ?? 1 overripe banana (rescued from compost doom) ?? 1 tbsp melted butter ?? 1 tbsp any milk ?? 3 tbsp flour (any type works!) ?? 1 tbsp sugar or honey ?? ? tsp baking powder ?? ? tsp cinnamon ?? Pinch of salt ?? Chocolate chips (optional, but encouraged!) ???? Microwave magic: 60 seconds in a microwave-safe mug ?? Oven option: 350°F for 25-30 min in an oven-safe ramekin The video might highlight my questionable acting, but the message is serious: Small kitchen hacks = Big food waste impact. Even one rescued banana at a time! ?? ?? Let’s Rethink What We Toss—Together! ?? If this message resonates with you, share this post to help spread the word! ?? Let me know in the comments if you want more videos like this. And drop your favorite “rescue recipe” too! #FoodWasteWarrior #BananaRescueMission #SustainableCooking #NationalBananaBreadDay #SmallChangesBigImpact San Francisco Environment Department #sanfrancisco #bayarea #climateaction ?? Meet Huy Le (he/him), a Senior Toxics Reduction Program Coordinator at SF Environment! With #NationalBatteryDay on Feb 18, Huy is raising awareness about the importance of safe #BatteryRecycling! ?? All batteries require special handling. Here are important facts to know: ?? Single-family homes: Place used batteries in a sealed bag on top of your black bin. ?? Multi-family buildings (6+ units): Property managers can request a FREE orange battery bucket at (415) 330-1300 for tenants to use. ?? Drop-off locations: Find the nearest recycling site at SFRecycles.org. ?? Lithium batteries need extra care! Look for “Li” or “Lithium” on the label, tape the terminals, and call (415) 330-1300 for a FREE pickup of large e-bike and scooter batteries. Together, we can protect our workers, preserve natural resources, and reduce hazardous waste in our communities. ???? Read on: https://lnkd.in/gAJrGtjG #RecycleBatteries #SFEnvironment #EWaste

A memorable day of food recovery with Warriors player Lindy Waters III! ??? At Replate we regularly rescue surplus food from Chase Center and deliver it to our recipient partner, Curry Senior Center—but this time was extra special. Having Lindy Waters III join us in action gave us the chance to showcase not just our work, but the power of community-driven impact. Huge thanks to Lindy and everyone who makes food recovery possible! And for San Francisco Environment Department for setting the right food waste policies. Together, we’re reducing waste and nourishing communities. ???? #FoodRecovery #CommunityImpact #GoldenStateWarriors #Sustainability

A community rooted in resilience ???? Bayview-Hunters Point is a vibrant and resilient neighborhood in San Francisco, known for its strong sense of community and commitment to a sustainable future. Rich in history and activism, the neighborhood has continuously fought for positive change in environmental and social justice work. While challenges such as pollution from the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard and limited access to fresh, healthy food persist, the community continues to advocate for a more equitable future. ???? One resident making a difference in the Bayview is Isaiah Powell. He co-founded the Dragonspunk non-profit in 2020, a grassroots organization raising awareness about food justice through education, land restoration, and a local farmers market. ???? Their first project, the Calibird Pollinator Sanctuary, came to fruition in 2020. The organization turned fire-damaged land above a Caltrain tunnel on Palou Avenue into an oasis for pollinators, like butterflies, bees, and birds. ?? ?? ??
