Tony Wessling, founding director of Radian Gallery, recently posted about a very good bump in traffic after SF/Arts Monthly featured one of their exhibitions on the cover: “In the hours and days following SF/Arts Monthly featuring the work of one of our artists on their cover, our website traffic spiked, and we had more views of the exhibition on our Artsy portal than any other show in our history. SF/Arts Monthly really put Radian Gallery on the radar in the Bay Area art scene, and that will allow us to continue our mission of showcasing the work of local artists.” We're proud to amplify the San Francisco Bay Area's galleries, and celebrate their dedication to centering contemporary work —?on our site and in every issue! Join our mission ensure every arts organization has a place to make its voice heard as we build on San Francisco’s role as a vital culture center. #sfartsmonthly To find more stories about local galleries, click here: https://lnkd.in/gJhUQ63y

The Fraenkel Film Festival (July 9-20) is an 11-night celebration marking the gallery's 45th anniversary, presented at San Francisco’s historic Roxie Theater and showcasing a rich selection of films chosen by gallery artists. Insight from SF/Arts Curator, Sura Wood: Fraenkel Gallery invited ten of its visual artists to curate double features, comprised of movies especially meaningful to them. A highlight of the series is what promises to be a lively onstage conversation, preceding the showing of “The Right Stuff,” between two old friends: Berkeley photographer Richard Misrach and the film’s San Francisco-based director, Philip Kaufman, who has evinced an abiding interest in photography. ”I’ve had actors playing photographers,” Kaufman recalled via email. “Brassai in “Henry & June,” Capa in “Hemingway & Gellhorn” — and many of my films have been shaped visually by reference to various photographs and paintings." "This year’s lineup kicks off with a block party bash on Castro Street and a screening of “Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero.” Carlos Lopez Estrada and Zac Manuel spent over two months attempting to capture-- like lightening in a bottle--the star power of the electrifying Black queer sensation, an outsize award-winning rapper and songwriter, on his 2022/2023 U.S tour." — SF/Arts Curator Sura Wood Frameline — the San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival — is the longest-running, largest and most widely recognized LGBTQ+ film exhibition event in the world.
