Presenter Spotlight! ? Meet Elaine Macias Gilmartin, BCBA, Doctoral Candidate! Elaine (she/her) is a first-generation Latina scholar and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). She holds a master’s degree in applied behavior analysis from the University of La Jolla, Southern California, and is currently a doctoral student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, studying Special Education with a focus on improving equity in ABA service access. Her professional journey has involved working with diverse children and families in clinic, school, and home settings, providing high-quality behavior analytic services to support the development of social, communication, and adaptive skills. Her research centers on promoting equitable access to services for Latino families of children with autism. Additionally, she is passionate about understanding family perspectives, encouraging healthy skepticism in treatment approaches, and examining the balance of power in family-professional relationships. Elaine’s work is guided by her commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, focusing on ensuring that her research, teaching, and practice amplify underrepresented voices. She consistently reflects on her own privileges and strives for cultural humility in her role as a BCBA, researcher, and educator. Her aim is to make ABA practices more inclusive, responsive, and effective for families from all backgrounds. Outside of her academic and professional endeavors, Elaine loves to dance. Presenter Spotlight! ? Meet Dr. Richard A. Price, PhD., CRC., BCBA-D! Richard (he/they) is a white cis-gendered gay scholar with over a decade of experience supporting the transition from school to work for individuals with Disabilities. He holds Master's degrees in Rehabilitation/Vocational Counseling, Kinesiology - Adaptive Sport, and Applied Behavior Analysis - Autism from Michigan State University, and a Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Richard is passionate about understanding the diverse identities and experiences of individuals with Disabilities, a commitment shaped by growing up as a family member of someone with Disability and witnessing the systemic shortcomings in including and integrating people with Disabilities in education and society. Richards research centers on the transition from school to work for individuals with Disabilities. More specifically, examining the services and supports provided to students with significant support needs in enhancing their career development. Taking a more nuanced approach in this investigation, his two areas of focus are: 1) Examining the vocational assessments utilized in guiding the career services and supports provided to students with significant Disabilities; and 2) Examining the services and supports provided to students with significant support needs that enhance student self-determination and advocacy as it relates to their career development. Additional research interests include adaptive sports, ethics and practice in applied behavior analysis, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration, and the intersection of Disability and LGBTQ+ identities. Presenter Spotlight! ? Meet Jordan Culpepper MS, BCBA! I have been in the ABA field for 8 years. I started as a Behavior Technician and immediately knew this was my passion. I have since not only gained credentials and education in the field but have also moved into executive leadership. My passion for ABA has extended into a passion for business which led me to gaining a specialization in Organizational Behavior Management. Ensuring the company provides staff with the motivation, education, and growth to best support company culture and promote significant progress with their clients. I am also incredibly passionate about “teaching the child today for the adult tomorrow” and promoting age appropriate sexual education and relationships/boundary skills to those with developmental disabilities to minimize their likelihood of becoming victim of or the offender in a sexual crime. Presenter Spotlight! ? Meet Barbara Gross, MA, MEd, MS, BCBA, LBA (MO), CSE! Barb Gross is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and AASECT Certified Sexuality Educator, and exclusively supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Favorite areas of research and practice include restoration of rights, increasing opportunities for meaningful sexual expression, and teaching internet safety and pornography literacy. Barb is passionate about early-field professional development and enjoys supervising and mentoring people new to the field of behavior analysis. She also provides AASECT sexuality educator supervision under the guidance of Dr. Bianca Laureano. She is co-host of the podcast “Sex Ed Book Review” with Landa Fox and teaches behavior analysis and sexuality education courses at University of Missouri-St Louis and Saint Louis University. In her spare time, Barb travels as much as possible, enjoys musical theater and good beer, and thinks waaaay too much about too many things. She is a work in progress, but aren’t we all? Presenter Spotlight! ? Meet "Kieta" Clay, MS, PLBA (MO)! Kieta Clay blooms in adversity. They are determined, resilient, and fun loving. They are lion-hearted. Kieta is an extremely eager and enthusiastic young professional with a sense of humor, a strong work ethic and is devoted to being an empathetic provider in the field of behavior analysis. Kieta is naturally curious and is still building their professional courage and confidence. Kieta was born in a small town in Northeast Missouri and later earned her bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Disability Studies and Psychology from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO. Kieta served previously as the Student Representative for the Sexual Behavior Research and Practice SIG. This fueled a passion to complete their graduate thesis on identifying interventions for inappropriate masturbation. Kieta earned her Master’s in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of Missouri-Columbia and currently is living their best life employed as a Provisionally Licensed Behavior Analyst at Missouri Behavior Consulting, LLC while they struggle with their fear of test anxiety. Kieta also is currently pursuing American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) certification for sexuality education. In their spare time, Kieta makes offerings to the crows, reads books, dances for dopamine every morning, bothers their furr children, and makes candles for whimsy. Valeria Parejo received her Doctor of Behavioral Health degree from the Cummings Graduate Institute for Behavioral Health Studies, and has a Master’s in Applied Behavior Analysis from the Florida Institute of Technology. She is a behavior analyst with BCBA and QBA certifications and has over 20 years of experience, working in various areas such as: -Intensive behavior group homes with adults diagnosed intellectual or developmental disabilities, psychiatric disorders, and severe behaviors. -Consulting in schools and clinics -Supervising and mentoring professionals in ABA and behavioral health -Teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, students seeking international ABA certification - in English and Portuguese -Staff training and management -Clinical evaluator for accreditation of clinics in ABA, focusing in best practices -OBM consultation to ABA clinics -Integrated Care -Sexual health and sexual behavior Nowadays she teaches at Florida Institute of Technology in the approved coursework for BACB certifications, and at The Behavior Web, in the preparatory course for QABA certifications, the first course to be available in Portuguese for behavior analysts seeking international certification. Presenter Spotlight! Meet Dr. Gemma Skuraton DrPH, MPH, CHES, CDE, CDP, CWP, ATC, CPT, FMS, RYT! Dr. Gemma Skuraton (pronouns: she/her) leverages her privilege to serve as the Director of Student Wellness & Health Promotion for Georgia Southern University, co-owner of Twice Consulting Services LLC and Twice as Well Public Health Consulting Firm. Gemma is a Certified Diversity Executive (CDE), Certified Diversity Professional (CDP) and completed a postdoctoral Diversity Equity and Inclusion Staff Fellowship, reporting to the Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) at a mid-size institution in Southeast Georgia. Gemma holds a Doctorate and a Masters degree in Public Health with an emphasis in Community Health Behavior and Education as well as an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology, majoring in Exercise Science and Athletic Training. Gemma a community-based participatory researcher primarily centered around designing, implementing and evaluating inclusive health & wellness co-curricula. Her portfolio includes a wide range of domestic and international projects which leveraged cross-collaboration among multiple political and community sectors. Gemma was selected as the 2022 keynote speaker for Morehouse School of Medicine Health Promotion Resource Center Annual Colloquium to discuss the intersection of well-being and diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace as well as the 2023 Key Note Speaker for SexABA to discuss the impact of abortion legislation following the supreme court ruling to overturn Roe v Wade. Gemma’s work in wellness and social justice has landed on her several recognition lists including the 2023 Georgia Southern University Excellence Award for Leadership, 20 under 40 Young Professionals Award for Statesboro Georgia, 40 under 40 Georgia Southern University Alumni Award, Kathryn Grube Unsung Hero award for assisting students above and beyond the call of duty and the Randolph S. Gunter Distinguished Staff Award for being admired and respected by students for outstanding dedication in advocating for diversity issues both in and out of the classroom. Programs under Gemma’s leadership were awarded 2019 Best Clinical Mental Health Program in Southeast Georgia and the 2023 National Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA) Gold Award for the Athletics, Recreation, Counseling, Health, Wellness, and related category as well as the 2023 overall Grand Silver Award for her work in reproductive justice by addressing period poverty to create safe and affirming environments for transgender, gender non-conforming and non-binary college students living in rural Georgia. Rachel (she/her) is a Behavior Analyst working with the neurodivergent population for over 11 years in various settings including school, home, and clinic locations and water therapy. Rachel is an AASECT-Certified Sexuality Educator (CSE) in addition to being a Certified Behavioral Sexologist (CBS). Her current work is focused on sexual health, safety, relationships, and empowerment with both neurodivergent and neurotypical populations. Her philosophy is grounded in access to sexual health and sexuality for all and being able to obtain comprehensive and inclusive sexual education. She has worked under the mentorship of Nicholas Aether in the field of sexuality for three years. She utilizes Sexual Behavior Analysis with couples and individuals as a contractor through Empowered: A Center for Sexuality and enjoys learning from her colleagues. Lauren holds a Master of Arts in Teaching and an Educational Specialist degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. Currently, Lauren is a PhD candidate, and her research centers on sexuality and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
