Celebrating International Women’s Day with the launch of our new WLEH Website! Women make up 70% of the global health workforce but hold just 25% of leadership positions. In eye health, this gap affects both, providers and patients, with 112 million more women than men experiencing vision loss worldwide. At Women Leaders in Eye Health (WLEH), we are working to create pathways for women to lead, strengthen mentorship, and ensure more patients receive the care they need. This International Women’s Day, we’re thrilled to launch our new WLEH website, a hub for connection, leadership resources, and professional development opportunities! Let’s continue to support women in eye care, drive progress, and expand access to quality vision care for all. Click the link to learn more! https://www.wleh.org/ We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Orbis International, Seva Foundation, and Women in Ophthalmology for their incredible partnership and support. #IWD2025 #WomenLeadersInEyeHealth #GenderEquality #Leadership #EyeHealth #WLEH #EmpowerWomen #HealthcareLeadership

  • Meet Sunita Arora, Seva’s first EYExcel trainee! Through the EYExcel program, she learned how to deliver critical eye care in her community. But Sunita didn’t stop there, she continued using her newfound knowledge for good – she passed it on. She trained more than 150 other people to become eye care support staff. They trained even more people, who trained even more people. Today, Sunita’s single training has launched over 2,000 careers in eye care across India. From patient support staff and counselors to ophthalmic assistants and other crucial roles, these individuals are fortifying health systems and transforming lives. On?#InternationalWomensDay?we are proud to spotlight Sunita’s journey in eye care and the ripple effect her compassion set in motion.?Watch her full story: https://lnkd.in/gqWUYXP4

  • Pher, Noung, and Nheab live in a rural, tight-knit village in Cambodia. As respected pillars of their community, they work together to weave baskets, prepare meals, and care for the young. They’ve witnessed multiple generations born and raised in the area, with many village members considering them extended family. When all three began experiencing issues with their vision, the effects were felt immediately. Daily tasks like watching their grandchildren, tending the garden, or even walking down stairs became constant struggles. Through Seva and partners, all three women received life-changing cataract surgery to restore their vision. With clear sight, their confidence, independence, and ability to care for their loved ones are renewed. They’re now able to continue building a healthier, stronger home for themselves and their community. Watch their full story: https://lnkd.in/g_N-G_Fw

  • Ending avoidable blindness means more than providing eye care solutions—it also means providing *access* to those solutions. In many rural communities, basic access to eye care is a luxury, not a reality. Seva is breaking down these barriers by bringing life-changing eye care to those who need it most, often in remote locations around the world. On a recent trip to Far Western Nepal, nestled within the hillsides of the Doti region, Seva and partners visited the small village of Sayal to provide the community with essential services like vision screenings, cataract surgeries, and eyeglasses distribution. Locals from the surrounding villages travelled by foot and motorbike to take part, traversing the near-vertical climb up the hills. For many, this represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them to have their sight restored. Thanks to the support of our donors, Seva is able to reach the farthest corners of the globe, like Sayal, to ensure sustainable and high-quality eye care to underserved communities – especially women, children, and indigenous peoples – far into the future.

We are proud to announce that Seva has been selected by the FDA to participate in the Total Product Life Cycle Advisory Program (TAP) Pilot, becoming one of the first organizations to join the program’s expansion into ophthalmic devices in 2025. As a TAP Pilot member, Seva will contribute over 40 years of expertise in eye care to support the FDA in guiding strategic decision-making during device development. This collaboration aims to ensure high-quality outcomes for patients and healthcare providers, aligning with Seva’s mission to improve access to vision care worldwide. "Investing in new technologies to further eye care access is one of the Seva Foundation’s key drivers for success,” notes Seva’s CEO and Executive Director, Kate Moynihan. “Our involvement in the TAP Pilot is a meaningful step for Seva, as together with manufacturers, we can advance solutions that help end avoidable blindness and provide everyone the chance to see the world clearly.”
