Proper hydration: -?Boosts energy and keeps you feeling refreshed -?Improves?the capacity to carry nutrients to your cells -?Prevents constipation and improves overall digestion -?Improves focus and brain function -?Supports healthy skin and optimal body temperature So how much water should you drink a day? The recommended amount of water one should intake is 4-6 cups per day. However, that number can vary depending on other factors including health conditions, outside temperature, age and medications.?Sports activity could change the optimal daily water need as well. We had the pleasure of attending the opening of Clinic By the Bay in the Excelsior District of San Francisco this week! Clinic By the Bay has been providing free, volunteer-powered services to the uninsured community since 2010. It’s inspiring to see this new facility dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality healthcare to our community members in need. It is National Pharmacy Week where we celebrate and recognize the achievements of our Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians! From its early beginnings thousands of years ago with the earliest pharmaceutical reference in 2100 B.C., to independent chemists and apothecaries, and to its evolution into the current practice of clinical pharmacy, the role of pharmacists has evolved substantially in recent years. Traditional activities of the profession primarily focused on the dispensing and supply of medications. Healthcare systems continue to modernize, and pharmacists now ensure the rational, safety, and cost-effective use of medicines and improve clinical outcomes by actively engaging in direct patient care and collaborating with many healthcare disciplines. With this expanding scope of practice, pharmacists are recognized as key players in providing individualized patient care as part of interprofessional healthcare teams. Today’s pharmacists all earn a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) and our Seton hospital pharmacy staff have a total of 145 years of pharmacist experience and 81 years of technician experience. Individual pharmacy staff years of service at Seton range from 6 months to 36 years. Our pharmacy technicians also play an integral role within the pharmacy as extensions of our pharmacists. Pharmacy technicians prepare and distribute medications, manage inventory, compound medications, perform quality control checks and many other functions related to medication.
