It's the start of spring, here in Wisconsin and, while we might see a few more snow flakes before summer gets here, the bees at Services Plus are out and about! Here's what our Wisconsin honeybees are doing right now: Right now, honeybees in Wisconsin spend this time of year simply trying to survive until warmer weather arrives. As long as a bee is healthy, has enough food, and is protected from the elements - especially water - they have a good chance of being able to stay warm enough to make it through winter and into the summer season. Soon the bees will be focused on expanding the colony to take full advantage of the wild nectar and pollen in our area, in order to provide nutrients to their growing population. We're hearing it's been a tough year for overwintering bees, with causes unknown at this time. We are lucky to have had 5 out of 6 of the Services Plus colonies survive the 2024-2025 winter. Some commercial beekeepers are reporting up to 60% loss in their hives. The queen is not yet in full laying mode and some bees have died over the winter. As the temperature rises, the sun stays out longer and the first pollen sources become available for the foragers, the queen will increase the number of eggs she is laying. The colony population will start to increase and then the focus for the hive becomes finding resources to feed the new bees. As this happens, the colony population will continue to grow rapidly into the late spring. This is when many colonies swarm or split in two with half of the bees leaving to find a new place to live. This is the natural way for the colony to spread its genetics but can be somewhat frustrating for a beekeeper who sees their bees fly away! As they build up, the bees will generally stay in the hive as long as they have enough space to operate. If they feel constrained, they will prepare to swarm. This is why you will see beekeepers add boxes to their colonies in the spring. That's our Services Plus Bee Update for this first day of spring! #paperconverting #beekeeping #honeybees #servicesplusinc #wisconsinmanufacturing

What do we mean when we say we're a converter of medical paper? When we use the term "medical paper", we're usually refering to what you might know as exam table paper, the stuff you might find yourself sitting on at the doctor's office. The other type of "medical paper" we handle is dental bibs, which are the squares of paper that the dentist clips around your neck to protect your clothing during your visit. This type paper often has a water-resistant backing to keep splashes at bay. #servicesplus #paperconverting #medicalpaper #contractmanufacturing #consumertissue?

Meet Shera Piontek, the Account Manager at Services Plus, Inc. If you're our customer, you probably already know Shera. Here's a little about her: "I began my journey at Services Plus in 1996 as the receptionist and have held many positions throughout the company over the years. My most recent position as Account Manager has given me the opportunity to expand my skill set on the sales side, while continuing to lead a team responsible for customer relationships. People development, streamlining processes and collaboration are just a few of the items that fuel my passion on a daily basis. In 2019 I married my high school sweetheart and, between us, we have four children. Outside of work you will find me making memories with them as well as other family and friends." #servicesplus #paperconverting #wisconsinmanufacturing #accountmanagement #consumertissue

Wondering what happens to our on-site honeybees during the winter? The bees stay in the hive throughout this cold season and they eat the honey we leave behind for them. The bees are able to keep the hive in the mid 90 degrees by vibrating to create heat – even if it’s 20 below outside! If there are no issues in the hive, a healthy honeybee colony emerges in spring, although not all the bees make it. The bees will begin flying out of the hive once we get back into in the upper 30s or 40s. #servicesplusinc #honeybees #paperconverting #beekeeping #consumertissue
