🏘️ Manufactured Housing: A Critical Part of Rural Homeownership Manufactured homes make up 13% of all occupied housing in rural communities—and more than half of all manufactured homes nationwide are located in rural areas. For many families, they offer one of the few affordable paths to homeownership. But the system isn’t always fair. In many manufactured home communities, residents own their homes and rent the land, which can devalue the asset. Financing options are limited, lot rents can be extremely high, and private equity investment has started driving up costs. That’s why HAC supports: - Stronger protections for residents of manufactured home communities - Access to standard mortgage financing for manufactured homes - Fairer treatment of land-lease homeowners Manufactured housing isn’t second-tier housing—it’s real housing.
