What a week for price transparency! After discussing the general optimism last week around increased enforcement of healthcare price transparency regulations in 2025, we had a significant step in that direction with the new executive order on price transparency signed into law on Tuesday! For the last few years, price transparency enforcement has focused mostly on hospitals. But with the new executive order signed this week, we’re finally seeing a shift toward stronger federal oversight, especially for payers. At Serif Health, we have seen firsthand how fragmented and inconsistent price transparency enforcement has been. This new push could change that. Here’s what we’re watching closely from the executive order: ? Clearer federal enforcement authority from CMS, particularly for payer in-network and out-of-network MRFs, which have largely been regulated (or not) at the state level. ? Updated standardization of data formats to make pricing information much more comparable across hospitals and health plans. ? Long-overdue requirements for prescription drug price reimbursements, which have faced repeated delays. Price transparency is a rare bipartisan issue with the potential to lower healthcare costs and improve decision-making for patients, providers, and employers alike, and we are excited to be part of the solution!
