[WHO ARE WE] Ferrari before Ferrari In the Ferrari family, entrepreneurship is more than just a profession—it is a true vocation passed down from generation to generation. The story of Serge Ferrari Group began with Serge’s grandfather, Louis Ferrari (1878-1958), a weaving worker who decided to start his own business in 1901. In 1918, he acquired a silk factory in Saint-Victor-sur-Rhins, near Lyon, which was originally known for an innovative process that allowed silk waste to be spun into thread. Renamed "Tissages Louis Ferrari", the company grew steadily, and in the 1930s, Louis’ son, André, joined the business to assist his father. Following World War II, Serge Ferrari, André’s son, also became part of the family company during a time of significant transformation in the textile industry, marked by the rise of synthetic fibers. Understanding the need to adapt to these new materials, André and Serge founded André et Serge Ferrari in 1956, a company specializing in the production of coated synthetic fabrics. A few years later, the acquisition of Kihm et Compagnie allowed them to expand their expertise, leading to major innovations in coated fabrics throughout the 1960s. This development enabled the production of fabrics for parachutes, tents, inflatable shelters, and floating barriers. By the early 1970s, André et Serge Ferrari had experienced significant growth, reaching 200 employees.
