What an incredible night celebrating so many phenomenal women at the RBC Canadian Women’s Entrepreneur Awards presented by Women of Influence+ Friday night!??The evening was made even more special when it was announced that Rebelstork had won ?? Prior to starting Rebelstork I never understood why there needed to be separate awards for women in business.??My career had only been in the fashion industry and the companies I worked for always had strong female representation at the highest level. It was in 2020 and time for me to go out and raise Venture Capital for Rebelstork when I realized quickly that being a female (and pregnant) founder meant the odds were very stacked against me.??The category my business was creating (returns recommerce within the baby gear vertical) was hard to relate to for many decision makers at the funds we were pitching.??I was one of the fortunate women to secure funding then and fast forward to now we are proudly backed by some of the top funds in North America. But, it was not easy and there was an astronomical amount of rejection and second guessing myself along the way.? When organizations like RBC Canadian Women’s Entrepreneur Awards shed light on women in business it helps reshape the narrative of what leadership looks like.??It inspires more women to pursue their dreams, and shows younger generations that they can make a meaningful impact though entrepreneurship. Big News from Teal Health: We’ve been awarded a $1.68 million SBIR Grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of The National Institutes of Health (NIH), to support the development and validation of our at-home cervical cancer screening technology, the Teal Wand?. The Teal Wand is a purpose-built device that allows a woman to collect her own vaginal sample for human papillomavirus (HPV) testing, a critical piece in cervical cancer prevention - all from the comfort, convenience, and privacy of her home. This grant is will help us bring this life-saving technology to more women, particularly those from underserved and underrepresented communities. Kara Egan, CEO of Teal Health, shares, "We're honored that the NIH recognizes the importance of our at-home screening technology in increasing access to preventive care and cancer screenings for women in the US. This funding brings us closer to our goal of providing women greater autonomy over their health while advancing the fight to eradicate cervical cancer." This award also recognizes the incredible work of our research partners and the diverse group of clinical trial participants who have been instrumental in this journey. We are excited about the impact this grant will have on our ability to expand access to critical preventive care and improve outcomes for women nationwide.
