Good news on Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) averting a strike with the TRANSPORT WORKERS UNION LOCAL 234, however as Dr. Tariem Burroughs - member of SEPTA's Citizen Advisory Committee - noted: "This one-year contract offers short-term relief but doesn't address the deeper systemic challenges facing the public transit workforce like safety, pay, and work conditions. While it avoids immediate disruption to service and the lives of all Philadelphians, especially our most vulnerable community members who depend on SEPTA for school, going to work, going to the doctors, etc., it highlights the need for lasting, long-term solutions that include sustainable and diversified funding for SEPTA. So it's a band-aid at best."

Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) has received $460,000 from the Federal Transit Administration to plan for transit-oriented development along a 4-mile corridor served by its Route 10 trolley. As part of its trolley modernization program, SEPTA will use the federal funding to identify affordable housing and commercial development opportunities as well as develop strategies to increase ridership and connectivity in West Philadelphia. bit.ly/FY24TOD

Phew and we've got some work to do: Gov. Josh Shapiro swooped into Philadelphia to announce he was redirecting $153 million in federal highway funds to Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), averting a significant fare increase planned for Jan. 1. The is a fiscal "life preserver" for the sixth-largest mass transit system in the U.S., after the Pennsylvania legislature failed to pass a Shapiro proposal for a longer-lasting increase in subsidies for public transportation.

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) recently celebrated the conclusion of the two-year Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) Airport Line Platform Upgrade Project. The $15.5 million initiative promises to enhance the overall travel experience between Center City and PHL. Spearheaded by Airport Architectural Manager Vincent Adamo P.E., the project aimed at modernizing the platforms. Adamo emphasized, “This project's success in revitalizing our platforms was made possible through the collaborative efforts of SEPTA, our innovative design team, committed contractors, and the invaluable Department of Aviation team.
