In senior living, there is so much opportunity to create more interesting imagery on aging. Especially as more baby boomers start to move into senior living, they are going to want to see more hip representation of aging. Let's get away from using the same stock imagery of seniors your competitors are using and use real imagery of residents for your marketing (not to say all senior living companies are using stock images). ?? Here are centenarian hands I photographed, printed, and collaged with simple painted borders. Combined these two hands have over two years of life!

Here's a sneak peek of the high-end architectural, lifestyle portraits, and food photography photoshoot from a short time ago that I completed with Kisco Senior Living. Creating images like these truly requires a collaborative effort. While I wish I could claim all the credit, it's the combined dedication of everyone involved that brings these visuals to life. From the community's executive director and sales team to the dining and janitorial staff, along with the creative minds at the corporate level, and my hardworking crew on set – it's this collective teamwork that produces these stunning images. Despite the rain, my team sprang into action, swiftly maneuvering outside to shield the lights from the elements with improvised solutions like wrapping them in garbage bags. This quick thinking led to capturing the striking image of the expansive dining room with the "sunlight" pouring through the windows!

Here is a powerful social media short I made for Belmont Village Senior Living on their award winning Argentum Best of the Best 2024 "Belmont Village Blooms" program. " I filmed the interview in La Jolla, CA and the other footage was from the Belmont Village team. "Belmont Village Blooms" refers to?a sustainable fashion launched by Belmont Village Senior Living, aimed at promoting environmental responsibility and active engagement among their residents and staff by raising awareness about the negative impacts of fast fashion. Residents go to thrift stores and buy used clothing and turn the clothing into something new. Then they have a fashion charity event, sell the clothing, and the money is then donated to charities.

Just keeping it real. Here's a genuine photograph of an individual I captured – no A.I. involved. The artistry and authenticity shine through in this portrait of a real artist. While there's a touch of artifice in setting up the shot and directing the pose, the essence captured exudes genuine pride. The prevalence of companies utilizing AI-generated images to depict older adults is concerning. Authenticity matters, and using real individuals in these portrayals is crucial to avoid misleading representations. Transparency is key – if a photo features an older adult, it should be a real person, not an AI creation. Even as an educator, discerning between AI and real images has become a necessary skill. It's not about superiority but about ensuring honesty in visuals, particularly when highlighting the beauty of aging and longevity. Disclosing whether images are genuine or AI-generated is essential for integrity in celebrating these aspects of life.

In today’s fast-paced world, where we’re constantly surrounded by both still and moving imagery, photographers must find creative ways to make their work stand out. I believe that integrating additional visual elements—such as projections or collages—enhances storytelling and adds a distinctive artistic touch to a photographer’s style. In this body of work, I used projections to deepen the connection between subject and story: a runner’s actual path mapped onto their body, checkered flags enveloping a Formula 1 driver, a chef’s knife seamlessly blending into Bryan-David Scott’s form, and an Indigenous woman’s spirit animal illuminating her face.
