“This is a f@cking nursing home!” Harley-Davidson’s former head of communications, Ken Schmidt, didn’t hold back at SLIF '18. After seeing senior living through his own family’s eyes, he got real about the fear, the stigma, and the perception problem the industry can’t afford to ignore. The truth stings—but it also sparks change. Let’s keep the conversation going. Join us this Spring! ?? June 1-3 | Santa Ana Pueblo, NM https://hubs.li/Q03cl57X0 #SLIFturns10

10 years ago, we kicked off the very first SLIF with this moment—Dr. Bill Thomas, unscripted and from the heart, reminding us what senior living is really about. This was the opening speech at our inaugural event, and nearly a decade later, it’s just as relevant and moving. A reminder of why this work matters—and why the conversation must continue. Celebrate 10 years of big ideas and bold conversations with us this June 1-3 in New Mexico. https://hubs.li/Q03bKHKc0 #SLIFturns10

What if senior living wasn’t just about care—but about purpose? At Garden Spot Communities, that’s the mission. The Wisdom Project, a partnership with Elizabethtown College, guides residents through a four-month reflection on their life experiences before they join a freshman class for a semester of mentorship and connection. At SLIF, CEO Steve Lindsey will share how fostering purpose can transform communities—and why it matters now more than ever. Join us in New Mexico to be part of the conversation. ??The quality that happens inside our communities is directly correlated to the quality of people who serve our residents. ??Since Trump’s first term, I have been saying we should not be building walls on our boarders, but recruiting stations. This NYT’s article provides the numbers that explain why that’s a great idea. ??After all, 99% of famlies in the US are immigrants. We have all come for hopes, dreams and opportunities, just at different times throughout history, like my family who came in the 1600’s. In the 1600’s green cards weren’t needed and no walls existed. ??At a time when the number of older adults is rapidly accelerating, we are doing exactly the opposite of what we should be doing. How does that make sense? ?? From earlier immigrant families to all of you hopefull immagrants, please don’t give up on coming to America, we want you and need you.

Not all innovation is technology. Sometimes, it’s human. ?? Goodwin Living’s citizenship program started with one resident’s idea. Now, it’s changed 200+ lives, strengthened workforce retention, and built deep bonds between residents and staff. This isn’t just a hiring strategy—it’s a movement. https://lnkd.in/gWY-35mx
