Houston Chronicle: Sen. Johnson, who has been pushing for parental leave for teachers in recent years, said local fundraising is a red flag. “I think we’re in trouble when we’re relying on community philanthropy to meet the expenses of fundamental state and local policy,” he said. “I don’t think teachers should have to beg the community in order to be parents and professionals at the same time.” Johnson has filed another?bill?this legislative session to mandate paid leave for teachers.
